| Quote SpaceEngineer ( ) Experiment with geometry shaders. Circles around stars, in the base plane, and lines connected them are rendered in the geometry shader using the single vertex data.
I love these; great aesthetic!

| Quote Storm026 ( ) It would be even nicer with those circles if they were colored to show the star class to make it easier to find a certain star type. just my opinion though.
Like this? Which version of the lines/circles colors are the best? Also, I added a transparent sphere showing the edge of the map.
Blue lines and circles:
Blue lines, green circles:
The line color is changed from the star color to the blue:
Green lines, green circles:
The line color is changed from the star color to the green:

| The first one! blue lines and circles look way better.
Also I don't like the sphere thing for some reason.
You are an artist Vladimir!

| I vote for the fourth one - though it is in a close tie with the last one to me. One thing is for sure though - I personally really think that the lines(or at the very least, the base of the lines) should be green. IMHO the blue color never really blended in nicely with the green ecliptic.
On a side note, I personally really like the blue sphere - it just makes the map look nicer.
EDIT: Also, what is that little barycenter near the central system supposed to be? I am assuming that it is a faint stellar remnant. Which color are they represented with?(Are white dwarfs white, neutron stars blue and black holes black?)

Quote DeathStar ( ) Which color are they represented with?(Are white dwarfs white, neutron stars blue and black holes black?) They have the same color as the star, ie Plank spectrum color.

| I vote for the third one. Love the color change and know what kind of star is it promptly.

Wow, that's pretty cool - I always thought that SE was missing these very long period comets.
Quote SpaceEngineer ( ) They have the same color as the star, ie Plank spectrum color.
That makes sense.

| I would vote for the third one. The star types are easiest to pick out when the lines transform to their color, and the blue circles stand out well against the green grid.
On the other hand, I wonder what it looks like if the map contains blue stars, like if you're in a young star cluster. The blue lines/circles might hide them. Maybe the last one (green circles with green lines that change to star color) would be best, since star color is never green.
The bounding sphere looks nice, too.

| Quote SpaceEngineer ( ) The line color is changed from the star color to the blue:
This one seems to be the best one. You have a decent contrast between the grid, the lines, and a gradual color change making it easier to spot specific star types.

I agree with the third for these same reasons.

| what about give us control over the coloring and intensity scheme on that screen too ?
remember some people can be color blind, some people dislike some colors etc.
