I found this a few years ago when I was talking to a friend about infinity. And how I wanted a bit of software that simulated a universe for me to explore. He sent me this, so thanks Lyoko. You're the best.

I found it a week ago. I was watching some videos from Outerra on YouTube and I had a video about Space Engine in the related videos. And now I'm here.

Kurjmac's videos

If he will make a video for future 0.9.7 version, a flood of new people will discover it cool

The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

I found it from some article that mentioned the best space simulators. This was listed as number 1. I can see why. Playing this thing in 5670 x 1080 resolution is amazing. Oh God!

I first used Celestia, and played around in it a lot, I really liked it and thought it was the best space simulating program. smile But Celestia has a many bad sides. For example it doesn't simulate eye adoption, doesn't have stars in other galaxies and no terrain on planet surfaces. And most important, the development has stopped! I searched around for a better substitute, and I eventually found this site. I first saw the mod "32k Moon map", and I seriously thought it was a photography. surprised After that, I decided that Space Engine is far more better than Celestia. smile

It was in february 2013. wink Thank you so much for this wonderful program! wink

Love Space Engine!

^It's an imageboard where people post (and usually troll) anonymously. Its most famous subsection is /b/, where Anonymous and such originate.

I occasionally stream at http://www.twitch.tv/magistermystax. Sometimes SE, sometimes other games.

4chan's an okay place but you've got to be careful what boards you look at, unless you're already desensitized to weird stuff on the internet. tongue

As for me, I discovered Space Engine when it was posted on another forum. Thought it looked awesome, but I didn't have the hardware to run it and so I forgot about for a while. Later on after I'd upgraded my graphics card I saw a video of SE on youtube which reminded me to try it out.

Hmm... I actually found it totally at random. I was looking for "planet textures" through google images. From there I got to a universe sandbox forum (never heard of US before) and on that forum's "other games" section, I found Space Engine.

I fell in love with it quickly. Reminds me of Noctis, only with nicer graphics and more modern interface. cool

My first session was pretty cool, though I had to learn the various key bindings, which was a pain at first, but after some 2 hours I became familiar with most.

I started my tour by looking at some "famous" stars - Fomalhaut, Betelgeuse, Vega, alpha Centauri, Eta Eridani.

Then I decided to look at some systems I knew from SF. That's how I went to places like Lambda serpentis (didn't find an oceanic planet with life though tongue )

Now exploring Lyra star systems. Great fun.
