| I discovered Space Engine just a few days before 0.9.6 came out. I was on YouTube, watching random videos until I stumbled upon a review of the program by LGR. I watched a few more reviews before rushing here to download Space Engine. I had wanted to explore the galaxy for years, so I nearly wept tears of joy as it downloaded. It was extremely slow to load at first, but I soon fixed it by editing the config file. So many worlds...
So, that's my story, and I think it'd be interesting to know how you guys first discovered Space Engine, and when.
EDIT: Also, what did you do first on SE?
Careful. The PLATT Collective has spurs.

| I got fed up waiting for Infinity, and started searching for similar projects. Didn't take long to find SpaceEngine. I think it was 0.94 back then.
Go to antza2.deviantart.com for cool photos!

| Similar story here: I was watching random videos (in YouTube) about space. That was back in july-august 2011. Actually no: I was on Orbiter Forums and I was trying to download an Open-GL Graphics client developed by a user. With this OpenGL client you had a wonderfull atmospheric haze effect in Orbiter, because Orbiter normally uses DirectX and its graphics s**cs in comparison with SE.. But while this OpenGL client greatly improved the visuals of the atmosphere and especially the way it looked during sunrise/sunset from space, It completely messed up the ground and other textures, and most of spacecraft textures as well. So I searched more about this atmospheric effect and I found out that it was further developed by a guy named Eric Brunetton or something like this and from there I found a link to YouTube and from there to a SE Video and from there to SE site.
But the greatest moment was not when I found it! It was the first emotion of excitment when I travelled from milky way to Andromeda and as I started approaching Andromeda galaxy, stars started to pop-out, more and more and more and it was like a dream! From that moment I got hooked! The procedural aspect of the game made, and still makes, the difference. Its a quantum leap forward compared to other games!

| I don't even remember how I found SpaceEngine, I think I just stumbled across it on some website, and I was thrilled to have something of a "spiritual successor" to Celestia to use
This was in June of 2011, 0.94 was out at the time.

| Can I propose to change the name of this thread to : How did you find SE and what were your first emotions? I have a gut feeling it will become a hot thread

| I think I saw it on youtube in relation to a Carl Sagan video, but I really don't remember how I found it. However I've been playing with Space Engine since .94

| I was chatting about astronomy with my best friend (he's the one who found that mipmap bug that was causing all those crashes) and asked him if he'd ever tried Celestia. He said he had and recommended SpaceEngine to me. As for my first session, well, it was a total mess, I think, because of the default 0.95 location being way beyond my crappy videocard at the time. Eventually I managed to get to Earth, and from there I looked at the rest of the Solar System, and was pretty much just like "Uhuh... Nice, I guess." Until I went to another star... And found beautiful planets there! (Well... Beutiful, flat planets because of my Intel video card, but I didn't realise that until later).
I occasionally stream at http://www.twitch.tv/magistermystax. Sometimes SE, sometimes other games.

| I saw some interesting photos on a forum somewhere in an off-topic section. Someone posted some cool photos and said something about Space Engine. I was scrolling real fast and took a quick look- they were interesting photos of a ringed planet but I figured it was from some kind of program that, although it lets you make really cool images, takes a while to get used to, and a while to create images. I use Bryce (currently 7.1) to make artwork, and I love the program, but it has (from my experience, and apparently that of others) really long render times. I suppose my assumption was that it was a 3D program specialized to make pictures of planets.
I gave it a second thought- why not just see what it actually is. Sure enough, a google search later, this replaced Celestia (which I wasn't using too often anyway) for me. This was recently- late last year when .95 was out.
SE needs some publicity.
EDIT: I can't even remember what my first session was like.
EDIT 2: I've used it more than I've ever used Celestia! Space Engine is wonderful!

| I found out about it during version 0.93 from a site called ''Apples for Geeks''. The guy who owned the site also made a video on youtube about spaceengine which is relatively popular, I think it has about 20k views. The website doesn't exist anymore though.

| I just wanted a Space simulator with better graphics and easier controls than Orbiter, so I started to look out, and then I discovered the word "procedural", but I didn't understand it (I'm not English). Then, some random day (I think it was a year ago) I was seeing videos of Celestia (I assume you know what is it) and I found this beautiful video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUSnrZRTCVQ. So I discovered Space Engine and Brand x Music at once, and also I discovered what "procedural" means . Then the last version was 0.94 (that spiky mountains with -3 LOD looked strange but I liked them) and I say -3 LOD because back then I had a 512MB GPU and 1GB of RAM. I had to buy a new GPU to play SE
My desktop: Pentium G3260 @ 3.30GHz 8.0 GB DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 5570 1GB

| I was looking for space engines because I was thinking about it, it was june 2012, I wrote "space engine" on Google and I founded this, I already used Celestia and I was looking for something similar, so I downloaded Space Engine, the day before I left for holidays (when I was in holidays I looked forward to back home to try again SE), unfortunately, when I returnet, my PC's videocard wasn't working, after about a month I fixed it and the same day 0.9.6 came out

| I was a MojoWorld user for years and there was supposed to be a follow up product called MojoSpace which would allow the creation of 3D volumetric procedurally generated solar systems or you could roll your own. Simultaneously, I was a big fan of Noctis and Celestia. Development on all three seems to be dead. One evening in November 2012, I was googling planer renderers and found XNA Planet renderer videos on YouTube. One of the cooments mentioned something called Space Engine. I read a bit about it and at first thought it was something similar to Celestia. I decided to give it a go anyhow and.... WOW!! All of you know the magic of this program so need to repeat it here
Now I am writing music for it

| I heard about the Kickstarter funding of Elite in early November and pledged. I doubt I will have time to play the remake when I get a copy (and perhaps it wont work in Linux anyway). I played the Commodore 64 version in the 80's and think that a remake is something deserving to be made. While reading about things related to the Elite remake, I can't remember exactly how, I stumbled across SE and I must say I got even more enthusiastic about SE. If Vladimir asks for funds, I'll certainly contribute whatever it is it will be used to turn SE into.
