Wow, that picture of the asteroid belt has blown my mind!

The way they're kind of clumped into orbits resonant with Jupiter... and the way the Milky Way influences the preferential detection of Kuiper belt objects off the plane of the Galaxy is something I'd never considered... Just astounding how much you can learn from visualising data this way!

You cannot see orbital resonances with this kind of display. What you see there (those two groups of asteroids in Jupiter's orbit) are known as "trojans". Trojans have 1:1 orbital resonances with bodies because they orbit that body's L4 and L5 Lagrangian points, 60° ahead and behind that body's orbit. Jupiter trojans are a separate orbital population from main belt asteroids.

Well I tried to make it clear that I am not rushing Spaceengineer, because I hate it when people are impatient, but since I don't know what takes a long time and what doesnt, I just wanted to say that I personally would rather have .97 when the bugs are fixed and not have additional features. But of course I had no idea that things like this take very little time. Just figured that since im part of the community, I would give input. No big deal though :). I'm sure he is working hard and I have no problem waiting.

There are additional features that are already half-put in or half broken, I'd rather them be finished.

it's because bugs need to be fixed and features that are partially implemented need to be finished

I will disable music player (due to unfixed bugs with playback), restrict number of asteroids to 2000 (due to slow script parser), not fix some memory issues, not upgrade ships materials and not fix all ships bugs (like dissapearing in interstellar space). I also will not change galaxy/nebula model generation code, not improve planets textures/landscape variety and not fix some planetary system generation bugs (like crossing orbits). There a lot of work that I will not do because otherwise release will be delayed a lot.

You know what are priorities for next version wink

Does that mean with ''I also will not change galaxy/nebula model generation code'' that we won't see those awesome galaxy dust sprites from the 0.97 S.E. video you made a while back? Or is it just me? I love that galaxy rendering!

Oh well, if that's not the case'I'll be perfectly fine with the rest by not improving planets textures/landscape etc, etc...

Caaan't waaait ! crazy

Crossing orbits are bugs? Huh? I thought it's normal.

Nope, dusk sprites should not be a problem, I think he talks about something else wacko

He means orbits that directly cross each other causing planets to collide. In reality you really wouldn't see that, because after only a few hundred or thousand years the planets would collide and then those orbits would not exist anymore.

SpaceEngineer, just hope you know that you shouldn't feel pressured into releasing early due to your fan requests! This is honest-to-God one of the best pieces of software I've ever used. I'd be glad to pay for it. And I'd wait as long as it takes for a bug free version to come out.

Ya I wasn't trying to add pressure either so if you have something youd like to do with this release thats fine. Id rather have bug free as well. We just hadn't heard much in a while so I was wondering if you were adding more features or if you were still working on the current ones. It sounds like you still have a ways to go. I realize it is just you doing this so I'm more than happy to wait.

Personally, id say release a .96.5 or something that may have some bugs for some of us to mess with.

That said, the features I really want are stuff with space ship assets. The ability to use a specular map independent of the diffuse, multiple maps per type, reflection/ envoriment maps, duplicate ships, and so on.

I should have put more thought into my post, thanks for the correction!

As anxious as I am for the next release to happen, SpaceEngineer, I hope you aren't letting the clamour of your adoring fans pressure you into changing your release strategy... release the product you want to release, only when you are satisfied with it.

You rock.
