Wow... this was a nice surprise. Anything that's animated will really bring some life into SE. The comets look nice too.

Wow! I mean I just can not believe you have done all this wonderfull looking, eye candy stuff in such a short period of time!
1st: New galaxy sprites which by itself looks great already!
2nd: Comet trails with both ion trail and gas trail, each emitting in the correct direction plus evaporating planets!
3rd: Aurorae! Fantastic looking aurorae!

Now this next version is going to be the best christmas present ever! yahoo

Thank You Master Vova!

Okaaay... So far I've made my top 5 list of the things I can barely wait for:

1. Equal mass and radius (although I prefer to use diameters) bug fix for brown dwarfs and gas giants...

2. Desaturation of the faint stars biggrin

3. Those freakin' awesome galaxy dust sprites

4. Evaporating comets and planets aswell...

5. Now this? Aurorae?

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWW... yahoo

What i like is that, before this was merely a "pretty static rocks to represent planets and stars".
But now, it really starts to add things that bring it to life, that brings the entire universe to life.

It's kinda like other "games" too. The difference between something that feels alive and dead can depend on tiny things.
Like in a game like Skyrim, you can have all the pretty textures and shaders you want, but what truly brings it to life are the random birds fluttering off in the distance, chatter of npcs and the wind in the mountains.

(oh god, will space engine have a sound engine too someday? wind and storm sounds when flying through atmospheres? weather?)

It's much harder to accomplish in a universe simulator due to the lack of, well, "life". You can't really have birds flying around unless the user and simulator itself is accepting the unrealistic nature of having every randomly generated planet having the same "bird species" or whatever.
And you can't really have a bunch of spaceships flying around, again unless the user and simulator accepts that realism (in terms of only representing what we already KNOW exists out there) takes a back seat.

What can be done however, is to add dynamic things like aurorae, comets, moving rings around the planets (already in, and good, but they could be better by having an even deeper "zoom level" where the 2d plane turns into a 3d field of rocks).
Sounds can add alot as well, when inside the atmospheres. Even if they are only generic sounds that are modulated to fit the atmosphere density or whatever.

* This is where my brain goes into suggestion-mode *
Some kind of background music or sound while in space would also help.
Music is a subjective thing, personally i always fire up the Solaris soundtrack when using SE.
Perhaps some background ambient sound could be used instead of music, some sort of abstract constantly procedural sounds. Subtle radio crackles, perhaps representing the radio waves emitted by certain stellar objects.

OH GOD that would be amazing, now that i think about it.
Imagine slowly panning through the stars in a galaxy, hearing the crackle or various "tones" of the stars.
Suddenly you hear a deep "wobwobwob" by a black hole passing nearby even though you didn't see it.
Or imagine approaching a cluster, where the intensity and cosmic "orchestra" gets more intense the deeper you go.

This is hard to explain by text, what kind of sounds i mean..
Think about the solar wind sounds.
Think about the jupiter sounds, stuff like that.
The electromagnetic representations in our audible range. This is something that could concievably be generated on the fly based on parameters of the nearby stellar bodies, since it inherently sounds random.

(A must listen for anyone interested in astronomy, it's astonishing the things we can reveal to our senses when we bring signals we humans cannot percieve, into our audible range. Much like we do visually for photography, especially in the coloration of nebulae)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MmWeZHsQzs

The MOST important thing about such a feature would obviously be a volume slider, so users can turn it off or just lower it to very subtle barely audible levels (probably the most suitable)

There could still be bird analogues because whatever is flying around is going to have wings in some form or another, unless we're talking about gasbag creatures which are mostly at the mercy of the wind. The biology will be different, but the physics and aerodynamics* remains the same.

*In a really thick atmosphere, it'd be more like swimming through the air than flying, but the physics remains the same.

Destroyer123, the work progress thread is where SpaceEngineer posts things that he has completed or partially completed. If he posts something here, then that means it will almost certainly be in the next version unless he otherwise says so. A new thread is unnecessary.

In short, anything that SE has posted in this thread as having implemented in the program will be in the new version. That is the most information that is available anywhere. If there is anything else that is not here that SE will be adding in the new version then it would be something that he hasn't mentioned yet.
