I'm wondering if now that there are accretion disks around black holes will there be disks around young stars in nebulas in this version or the next? I'm not going to ask if your going to add them because it has been said many times that every space object will be implemented sooner or later I'm just wondering if we're close.

I think that's the only trailer comming. 0.9.7.2 seems so close to release, that working on a new trailer would just be taking extra time.

Love SpaceEngine!

Great rift video. Glad to hear DK2 will work on 0.9.7.2 from another post I read. I just had one slight concern, and that was regarding 0.9.7.2 possibly not having a cockpit as a "frame of reference" option in VR mode. Please try this demo out with the 0.4.4 runtime in direct mode and try various cameras opions to see what I mean. You can kind of get a sense of how important it is here: https://mega.co.nz/#!wcRUm....LnzqzrE

Will there be an option for a cockpit with a body avatar in rift mode? I feel it's one of the most important things for VR in space (for not only presence but preventing motion sickness). I know there is some motion parallax of moving past planets for 3D effect there, and some 3D effect close to a planetary surface with nearby objects, and atmospheric perspective. But feel in space only that one small step of adding a frame of reference is pretty crucial in VR, since stereo vision is so short and of because vection. This is really starting to look incredible btw! I Can't wait.

Edit: Interesting video from Oculus Connect on vection, why cockpit are important in VR, frame of reference http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DgfiDEqfaY&t=28m7s This guy from Oculus is going to explain it way better than I ever could. wink

I played this demo, but wrong FOV (it was designed for DK2, but I have DK1). I can't say what I have motion sickness in SpaceEngine. Only if approaching fast to a planet surface. "Frame of reference" is not important there too. Despite on infinite distance to objects in 90% of time (= no monoscopic view), Oculus Rift allows to observe space with real FOV and full freedom of head rotation. The most epic thing is approaching a planet: it grows and grows in you view, but you still can't feel the distance - this gives the true sense of the scale.

Hey,

Kudos for the big work you're doing SpaceEngineer, I honestly didn't exept some of those neat features to be implemented for 0.972. You have my full support!

Nice trailer btw.

Now, myself being afraid to come across a black hole, I wanted to know if it was possible to have an option for disabling / enabling them, just in addition to the stars / clouds / nebulas / comets and any other object that you can already disable?

Sorry if I broke the law.

Thanks!

Accidentally encountering a black hole is nearly impossible, since you know there will be one at the exact center of every galaxy and globular cluster, and won't randomly be encountered in ordinary star systems. They're also so small that you won't ever go near one unless you're trying to. So just don't go near one.

That's true, but most of the time I explore stars such as white dwarfs or neutron stars, and one time I fell into one, my screen was so black at this moment in time that I jumped on my chair biggrin

...that was when I was zooming in on Rigel, and surprisingly found out there was a black hole near of it.

Though I'm pretty sure I've found a single stellar black hole, hm...

Fortunately for you, black holes will be much more rare in 0.972.

Eh, it's not that I dislike black holes, more the opposite, I admire them. It's just the surprise effect that I do not like, when not expecting them to appear in front of me, as in come face to face with a black hole.

Why is that anyway?

Maybe a unique series of events had you come up on one really quickly.

If you go too fast, you'll fly "through" it in Space Engine. But if you go slow enough, you might trigger the rudimentary physics engine - the same one that keeps you above the ground on planets. Only, you'll be on the "surface" of the black hole.

You also have to have it dead center, so you might have known it was there. I think it is very unlikely to just happen upon a black hole by accident.

The reason for this is while black holes are massive objects, diameter wise they are rather small. Stellar mass blackholes are just about a dozen kilometers across. That is just the diameter of the event horizon, since the object itself is much smaller.

Actually, I think I know what happened. You probably selected Rigel B, which is a black hole, and hit Ctrl+G to "land" on it. That made my screen mostly black all of a sudden. Because it's a small object diameter wise you wouldn't see it on approach. It would come up suddenly.

City lights, no. Procedural civilizations are still far off.

For the foreseeable future, procedural night side lights will be natural phenomena only.

Tonight... you.

i love the lava planets! but how about these? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_planet_types

Planet classes are discussed in this thread and look to be excellent in 0.9.7.2
