| I liked 2010 a lot more than 2001. Watch them both, I'd say. Though the books are much better.
I occasionally stream at http://www.twitch.tv/magistermystax. Sometimes SE, sometimes other games.

| Quote (apenpaap) I liked 2010 a lot more than 2001 I agree. 2010 was simply a much more enjoyable and watchable movie compared to 2001. 2001 was just so incredibly slow and dull, and pretty hard to watch.

| Yeah, the pacing of 2001 was pretty strange. Although I recommend it as the classic hard-sci-fi film as well as an artistically interesting film, the book is a lot better, as is the 2010 film.

| Just watched Europa Report (in original language too, with subtitles), and I really liked it! It was so intense, the only flaw is that charachters are not developed, but i don't care about it so much, i loved the documentary-style of all the movie, and the hype, just... a bit unrealistic.
The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

| I just got back from watching "Gravity". I just love the research they obviously did, and it shows that you don't need killer aliens or black holes t. Simply being in space can make a gripping thriller.
Careful. The PLATT Collective has spurs.

| Just got back from seeing it, too. Absolutely excellent movie, even though the orbital mechanics was lacking. (Also, apparently the Hubble, ISS, and Tiangong 1 are all on basically the same orbit? Lolwut?)

| Quote (Watsisname) even though the orbital mechanics was lacking I was ok with that given that the creator wanted to have it be realistic but also had to sacrifice some realism to make the movie work. He didn't make those choices out of ignorance, but out of artistic license and necessity.
I did have problems with some parts (spoilers follow):
Overall though I was quite happy with the movie. And the visuals were absolutely stunning. I wish I'd seen it in 2D.
Quote (Watsisname) Tiangong 1 Not Tiangong 1, this.

Oh I know, it was necessary to the feasibility of the plot do simplify it, as well as have the ISS/stations so close to one another. It just still annoyed me. :P
And I thought for sure I had heard Clooney say Tiangong in the movie when referring to the Chinese station; I guess I just imagined that.
DoctorOfSpace, those are great. I didn't even notice the hair!

| Quote (Watsisname) And I thought for sure I had heard Clooney say Tiangong in the movie when referring to the Chinese station Yes, that is what they called it in the movie. But it was not Tiangong 1. Note: all planned Chinese space stations, with the possible exception of the one I linked, will be called Tiangong, just as the first several Russian stations were all (publicly) called Salyut.
Quote (Watsisname) I didn't even notice the hair! In all fairness, she did have very short hair which was dampened by sweat and which would not have floated noticeably in microgravity.
Also, Tyson got some other things wrong; the orbital debris was clearly orbiting in the same direction as the characters, since its speed difference from them was only several hundred meters per second.
I think he was bashing on the film just a little too hard, he should have gone about pointing out the inaccuracies in a different way.
