Caiterz, you might want to check out the Carl Sagan Appreciation Thread
Quote (Antza2) But why no Battlestar Galactica (the 2004 version)? It's the best Sci-Fi TV-series ever made IMO. I would have to passionately disagree with you on that. Sure, the first two seasons were pretty good, but it lost its charm for me after that. And it can't compare to Firefly, Star Trek's TOS, TNG and DS9 (even Voyager might be better), and probably other series that I've never even seen. BSG was decent, but I don't see a strong case for "best Sci-Fi TV-series ever made".
Also, you should check out the original BSG if you haven't seen it. It's not a good as the new one, but it's definitely worth watching. And it had THE BEST theme music.
Quote (Caiterz) -Lost in Space I watched that movie so much when I was younger. I'm surprised the the DVD laser didn't burn right through it

Like i said, it's a matter of taste. I like the gritty and dark theme of the new BsG, although the later seasons became a bit weird when they tried to cramp too much story in the last few episodes.
I always found the older stuff like Star Trek a bit silly. Same with the old BsG. They are just too "campy" (I'm not sure if i'm using that word correctly.)
Firefly is cool, but in my books, BsG is better.

| Quote (Antza2) I like the gritty and dark theme of the new BsG One aspect of that, the side reflecting common humanity, with all the dysfunction, injustice, and torturous relationships, was one of the things I most disliked about it. I have to face these things every day in the world, and I hate them. For me, books, games, movies, and TV are a way to escape from all that. If they exist within those media in a manner similar to how they manifest in reality, then they cease becoming enjoyable and instead become painful. Hence, I cannot like BSG from the end of season 2 onward.

I like to see dystopic and depressing stories in TV, games, movies and books. It's the "fight for survival" aspect of such stories that keeps me interested. One good example of such story, other than BsG, is Metro 2033 written by Dmitri Gluhovski. It tells of the last remnants of humanity trying to survive in the dark metro tunnels under Moscow after a nuclear war.
Quote (HarbingerDawn) Hence, I cannot like BSG from the end of season 2 onward. What happened at the end of the second season? I can't remember.

It isn't hopeless or dystopian settings that I dislike; I often find those fascinating. What matters to me is the specific details of how the people in the story live and interact with each other.

| Movies/TV Series -Alien (The whole series I just LOVE the idea of the aliens, acidic blood, a hive, can hide in the smallest of places, THERE AMAZING! If there not impregnating you with their facehuggers ). -Prometheus (had to re-watch Alien because of this movie) -2001 (haven't had a chance to watch 2010) -AVP (I liked it but I've never read the comics so I wouldn't know how bad it is compared) -Defiance (if it counts, still is a good series) -Jurassic Park & Lost World (Lost world was my favorite but I can barely stand watching the 3rd)
