Well, this isn't exactly in the league of 2001: A Space Odysey, Sunshine, etc., but Land of the Lost was really, really funny.

You need to revise that! Where's Star Trek and Star Wars in there?

Star Wars

Star Wars technically isn't sci-fi, so that can be forgiven smile

I loved Avatar so much, many people says that is the copy of Pocahontas, or Aida, i don't actually care about it, i love the plot and the places of the film, only thing that seemed strange to me, are floating islands biggrin

The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

CPU: Intel Core i7 4770 GPU: ASUS Radeon R9 270 RAM: 8 GBs

(still don't know why everyone is doing this...)

They provided a kind of explanation for those, magnetic currents or whatever. But where did all the water come from?

But where did all the water come from?

Well, water is the single most abundant compound in the universe, but maybe you mean the water on the floating mountains? If so, then all I can think of is that they get plentiful rainfall (which much of Pandora seems to as well).

On the floating mountains, yes. If I remember correctly, there were waterfalls as if the rocks magically produced water.

All I can think of is that they get a lot of rain, and that rain pools in places on the mountains and is gradually fed into those waterfalls. Perhaps there are times during dry seasons or droughts when the waterfalls stop.

All I can think of is that some artist thought that it looked nice not bothering to consider credibility. smile

As can be seen in the picture below, the floating individual mountains are way to small to hold a lake big enough to support such waterfalls. One can imagine several mountains with water cascading down from a huge mountain above, but that would hardly happen. Water in free fall quickly turns into spray (which is actually correctly illustrated below).

Maybe it had just rained half an hour before biggrin But hey, if your movie can have unobtanium, then it can have magic waterfalls.

Avatar, both Trons and Oblivion leads my favorite SF films.
Star Wars and Apollo 13 comes with them if you enlarge to all space films. Gravity is on the way too, if the whole film is as great as the trailer.

Believe me or not, I never watched any Space Odyssey movie. Each time I think of it I don't have the time ...

Then only watch 2OO1. 2010 doesn't compare. My advice for watching 2OO1 is to try to watch it on a really, really big screen in a darkened room with no other sounds or distractions- immerse yourself in it, and relax. Also, it's only 2 and a half hours- not much longer than many other movies.
