SpaceEngineer, I hope you continue to add even more awesome things in the future smile

I like the wiki idea very much, but I don't like the idea of including Wikipedia.

Wikipedia has a respectable goal and is no doubt a success, and is perfect for short, informal research. However, anyone can edit Wikipedia. Yes, we've all heard that criticism before, but even more important is the length of the articles. Do we really want to search through them, picking and choosing what parts we want? We are only looking for descriptions, which amount to a few paragraphs for each page, right?

Perhaps it would be better that we write these explanations ourselves. Much is common knowledge, and we certainly have a community which seems up to it (I've seen plenty of well written ideas and opinions on the forum). I'd be happy to contribute myself. If we write it ourselves, it will only be as long as we need. The last thing anyone wants is too much information. We can even provide reliable sources at the end of each description if we want.

Also, each page should ideally contain two sections: Known facts, and theories.

Localization of the database is the biggest problem here, but the same problem already exists for the program itself.

One more thing- there should be a distinction between discovered (procedural) objects and known objects. Perhaps two separate databases- fact and fiction.

Anyway, that's my opinion. Keep up the good work. smile

EDIT: ...my 100th post! yahoo

The first example - the Earth. The name of the planet in the upper left corner may be in your local language (on Russian forum I post the same images with Russian GUI and Russian name of our planet). The name may be taken from the database, so no modifying of the scrips required. Description is taken from Wikipedia.

Taking the descriptions of real objects from Wikipedia articles seems like a good idea to me, at least for the default release. SpaceEngineer needs to use some kind of description, and he can't come up with descriptions for every object on his own. In addition, the Wikipedia entries for the planets are going to be better than what the forum can come up with in almost every case. The science articles on Wikipedia, especially the ones on astronomy, are the highest quality articles on the whole site. And of course, if anyone wants to change the description, they can. We could also have a community wiki sort of thing like you suggest. I just don't see the need to entirely replace Wikipedia with it.

Where did I mention including Wikipedia? I just said that I did not myself write the description for Earth, but copy/pasted it from Wikipedia. The final release will have articles for every planet writen by me. Some misunderstand here...

I think you could make a "procedural" description for procedural sentient-life planets, i mean, if you write: "This planet have a "+(var)+" radius and a "+(var)+" mass, is a "+(var)+" planet with "+(var)+" surface..." or something like that, it would be easy and nice smile

EDIT: The name of the planet could be random, i founded so many programs on the web that do this smile

Desaturation of the faint stars (simulating color sensitivity of the eye)

Will this effect be able to be toggled in the config?

Not to rush you, but whats the ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival, or how soon) on the next release? I'm just wondering since I'm looking around the catalog stars for planets with life and I keep seeing ones with extremely thick atmospheres. I'm actually going through the catalog (just out of curiosity really) and since there are going to be some changes to the procedural engine, I don't want to have to go too far if I have to start over. Then again though I'm at 25 Eridani atm and most of them have an HD and/or HIP classification as well.
