| One of the last and most important points Carl Sagan ever made in his life.

| Another great Sagan quote (and my former forum sig)
Also, if you're a resident U.S. citizen in one of the 50 states then you might want to check out Penny4NASA, and write your congresspeople (personally I would wait until after the newly elected ones have taken office, so that your words don't fall on lame duck ears).

| Hi, everyone.Just found this site and wanted to join in on the Carl forum.I have been inspired by the works of Carl since before Cosmos. He has affected me and my beliefs and way of looking at life most profoundly. I can watch Cosmos over and over and still get something new out of it even though now it is over 30 years old. It's impact on me and many others is far reaching and still continues. Every episode had a message that is still relevant, in fact more so now than ever. There is no one that can come close to Carl.I admire Neil de Grasse Tyson,Michio Kaku, Bill Nye and Brian Cox, but none of them have the presence or possess the appeal, and the sheer poetry and insight of his work. His works and message continue to inspire new generations. I enjoyed the Carl Sagan Tribute Series by Callum Sutherland that are available on youtube and also the Sagan Series.I wish there were more material available on video.

| Hello gramparsons73, and welcome to the forum. Please take a moment to read the forum rules.
Thank you for joining our community I agree, Carl Sagan was possibly one of the most inspiring, insightful, eloquent, and intelligent people that ever lived. I feel the same way about watching Cosmos, I never tire of it and am still moved by its incredible writing, deep historical context, and profound messages, all set to an incredible selection of music. I still get goosebumps every time I watch the supernova sequence in The Lives of Stars Interestingly, that episode is also the only one that contains any noteworthy factual errors on the subject of astronomy (concerning star fates versus star masses).
The power of his written works can of course not be understated. I often recommend The Demon-Haunted world to people as something of a Beginner's Guide to Critical Thinking. His ability to combine critical analysis, education, and elegant storytelling in his works in unrivaled by any other author.
The world sorely needs someone like him again.

Yea, that threw me off and i didn't know what to think about it. 2 times the mass of the sun, 3 times?

| I would only say he was a bit naive with regards to politics. Otherwise the guy was a walking and talking god among men. The entire Cosmos series is on YouTube now and it should be mandatory in education.

| Quote (Tank7) I would only say he was a bit naive with regards to politics. In what way was he naive about politics? I found that he actually seemed very in touch with politics, the political system, and the reality surrounding them.
Quote (Tank7) The entire Cosmos series is on YouTube now and it should be mandatory in education. I wholeheartedly agree.

| I've just finished watching through the Cosmos series over the last month or two. I saw most of the episodes in the 80's, but haven't seen complete episodes since. Quite enjoyable. And most of all well written.
Unrelated to Cosmos, I liked Vangelis at that time as well, very much a pioneer in instrumental synth music along with Jarre, but haven't listened much to that music since. It made me change my phone's ringtone to Alpha.
