| Quote Aerospacefag ( ![Link to the quoted text](http://en.spaceengine.org/button/lastpost.gif) ) I'd like to object: if THEY are really after you, does it still count as paranoia? It depends on how reasonable it is to think that they're after you, i.e. how much and what kind of evidence there is (note: this applies more to individuals than to governments). Anyway, I was not trying to make any kind of truth statement, I was just making a joke.
Also, why are you objecting to me? Destructor1701 is the one who used the term paranoia, I was just making a joke based on his post.

I think it's pretty reasonable to question importing/exporting military-grade equipment (accelerometer sensors) to the countries of different military block.

I agree, to an extent, but it's clear that the customs problems in this case are due mostly to other factors which have nothing to do with national security.
It's also a bit silly to talk about this in terms of weapons-grade materials since the USA and Russia are each two of the biggest arms exporters in the world and will give weapons to almost anyone with enough money.

We can't really be sure, but you should probably consider more circumstances about such relations between countries. We're not talking just about importing from USA or Russia, but about shipment between them, that seems to be different matter.

As I said before, the main cause of this issue with the Rift seems mostly to do with bureaucratic and organizational issues rather than national security concerns.
As for the story you linked, that situation is different in every way than this one. He was (allegedly) selling technology with direct military application directly to people affiliated with the Russian government, forging documents, and attempting to cover up what he'd done. The technology he was selling was also "highly controlled" for export by the USA. Rift technology is not, otherwise it would not to be available for sale to almost every country in the world, and it would be the USA, not Russia, attempting to stop shipments of it.

But those problems are actually solvable with enough time given, as OR will gain popularity with time - maybe 2-3 month will be enough. It's not that big problem as if somebody would completely stop shipping them, which is possible in the case I'm talking about.

| Regarding the second generation prototype, here is an official "update" from the Oculus VR website, not saying much more than the Carmack interview, but something is better than nothing...
Quote To clarify: we’d like to ship a new development kit before the consumer version that provides near identical features that developers can build on and test against for the Rift’s launch. That said, we have no plans to announce a new development kit this year. The timing of a new dev kit is tied to the launch of the consumer Rift, and we’ll keep the community posted.
Also, we're working to ensure that content built using the current Rift development kit is compatible with new Oculus hardware, though there will be some integration required to take advantage of the new features, especially for the best experience.

| Woah - I made a joke comment, went offline for a weekend, and found I had precipitated a diplomatic incident!
I kid... perhaps ill-advisedly.

| Hey guys, I know I'm a little late to the discussion, but I certainly believe that this should get Oculus Rift support ASAP. I've tested one myself, and have actually ordered a development kit on its way now While yes the graphics on it aren't exactly the greatest, what really is its high-ground is giving you the sense of scale of an environment; things feel physically present with you, and to their proper size. Minecraft blocks actually look 1 metre large, for example. Therefore, seeing planets in actual size would be, in one word, incredible
Here's a video of someone (not me, I ain't trying to promote here) playing a.... well not game but a demonstration of how big our solar system is, designed for the Oculus Rift. Think of it like those images you see with the planets lined up next to the sun, then the sun next to other stars, showing their size, but as 3D models. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vflhiq0TmaI
It's called Titans of Space, and you can download it and do it just on your monitor too, if you feel like it. But don't expect the same sense of scale the guy gets in the video
