| Naming the first SE game isn't of much importance right now, I think we should focus on coming up with a term for all SpaceEngine software, to distinguish its name from Space Engineers.
Anyway, if we did try to use Uncharted Worlds as a name, the worst that could happen is EA asks us to stop and we have to pick another name. Not a very big deal.

| There are sites that let you input 1-2 words and they create a trade/brand name for you: http://www.businessnamegenerator.com/ They also check if the name is copywrited. Also here: http://sbinformation.about.com/od....ors.htm

I never said it was a big deal. Simply said it would be best to avoid any of these beforehand that could cause a issue with companies that hold rights to a popular franchise.

The current name fits the program though. Any new name needs to be just as simple and easy to remember and describe what the program is.

| "This game was designed using the Kosmosis Engine"
Sorry, I just imagine how certain names would be used. :P

| Kosmosim sounds rather medicinal to me.
I occasionally stream at http://www.twitch.tv/magistermystax. Sometimes SE, sometimes other games.

| Kosmosim has an odd ring to it. I'm not quite sure how to say it. Kos-mos-SIM, KOSMO-sim, or Kos-MOSIM? Each sounds kinda odd to me.
I'm not one to toot my own horn, but I've had Kosmosis in my head the whole day since it came to mind. Maybe I'm the only one. That's fine.

| I see a huge difficulty in naming SpaceEngine games we know nothing about: we know nothing about them. A game name should somehow reflect the purpose and atmosphere of the game itself and, not knowing what games one is trying to name, the results can be lackluster at best.
As for SpaceEngine, well, I like stuff luke UniBuilder. As in Universal Builder, Universe Builder, etc. Although I'm not sure if it's a strong enough name.
That or The God Machine.
Or, joining the two, and going all Latin on it all, Machina Universalis.
They let me use this!

| Quote JCandeias ( ) we know nothing about them That's not true at all. We know a good deal about the plans for the first SpaceEngine game. Look at post #3 in this thread for some links, and some idea what to search for. One of the most detailed descriptions of gameplay elements is here, but it's in Russian.
But even on the funding page there is a useful summary of the first game:
$35 000 - Single player space exploration game
Gameplay based on space flight simulation, space exploration, research and building Realistic spaceflight physics with both hardcore fully manual controls and handy semi-automatic controls Various spacecraft models Build ships, space stations, and bases on planets Collecting data about celestial objects using probes and satellites
$50 000 - Online space exploration game
Module-based ships with a 3D constructor Players can name planets that they have discovered Server database for worlds discovered by players A database search function for finding a planet by certain parameters

| Oh, I wasn't aware of that Russian page. I find the info on the funding page pretty vague, but indeed there's good information in that page. I didn't read it all (it's quite lengthy, and my Russian is a bit shaky), but it seems to be more than enough to name it. My bad.
So, is it considered useful to baptize the game(s) and the engine with a comon "feel", to reinforce their links to eachother, or not? I.e., would it be nice to be able to advertise the game as "UniExplorer, an UniBuilder game", or something of the sort?
If so, then it might be a good idea to name the engine first anyway.
They let me use this!

| I think each game should have a distinct name, though should be tied closely to the engine when it is described on the website or in the press. So for the exploration game, you could have a name like "Boundless Frontiers" or "Uncharted Worlds", etc. The MMO would have a different name, a combat sim could have a different name, a gravity simulator a still different name, and so on.

| Why can't we just call the game "Space Engine"? It already has a good ring to it.

| Quote Inspector_Gadget ( ) Why can't we just call the game "Space Engine"? It already has a good ring to it. Because 1) it's not very descriptive, and 2) SpaceEngine is the name of the game engine. There will be multiple programs based on it. They can't all have the same name. Imagine if every game on this list was called "Unreal Engine". It would make no sense, and it would be impossible to tell different software from each other.
