Please post here all of your reports about bugs or crashes in SpaceEngine. Attach to your message a screenshot (if possible) and a log file (it's called the "se.log" and is located in the SpaceEngine's directory). Only the log file will help me to understand your problem and find a solution.

My friend who introduced me to SE (Yet still doesn't have a forum account here... If you're reading this, get off your lazy bum and make one :p) told me turning the "BugMipMaps" option in main.cfg on eliminated most of the crashes he had in 0.96. I've tried turning that option on too, and haven't had a single crash yet (though I haven't been testing for very long).

I occasionally stream at http://www.twitch.tv/magistermystax. Sometimes SE, sometimes other games.

I had the problem where stars appeared as black disks, but updating my nVidia drivers to the latest version fixed that issue.

I'm really astonished by v 0.96 of Space Engine. It's fabulous!

LOLZ, this is an old bug from 0.94 - an instant crash then glGenerateMipmaps function called for procedurally generated textures. On my ATI laptop SE crashes immediately when procedural planet appears on the screen, but on NVidia PC all works well. I thought I'd fixed that in 0.95, but I simply had a mistake in the code so mipmapping was never used - and no more crashes related to it. In 0.96 I fixed that mistake, and fortunatly (or unfortunatly) mipmaps work on both my NVidia and ATI computers... I am going to make some tests now and update the troubleshooting forum.

By the way, disabling the mipmapping will save up to 33% of video memory used by planetary textures - so it is highly recommended to those of you who have 512 Mb video or less.

UPD: Well, I've done a test, this doesn't help for me... I still can't catch this crash in the debugger sad

I can't visit Sol planets without the program just crashing. It gets to loading the bump and then just crashes.

edit: For now I did the video memory thing that works for Nvidia and it stopped the crashing when I set it to 2048 but framerate is low at times and it stutters a lot but it isnt crashing

Oh ok , i thought you meant you already had xp in your system , hmm well try updating your graphic driver or you can post your system specs (ram cpu graphic card) to see if your meeting the appropriate requirements to run SE

architeuthis, try to download and install the new patch (0.9.6.1) see if that makes any difference , clear the "cache" folder before you do

I installed the patch as you said. However Space Engine still randomly crashes with the same frequency as before as far as I can tell.
