| Generated System Switched from Planetful to Planetless after crash - bug?
Can someone explain this one?.. In 0.972 I found and took pictures (see my holiday snap here) of a particularly beautiful Oceania. The engine crashed while I was there but I had bookmarked it. When I tried to return, I got the error 'object does not exist. It was in a cluster of a distant galaxy. I managed to make my way back to the same cluster manually (using the truncated address to find the galaxy etc) but now, there was just a binary star system.
I hadn't messed with any settings and I don't add planets at the moment, just explore what's there. When I've had a crash happen whilst exploring a planet before it has always been possible to return to it. I can't understand why the engine would create a different thing in the same location without any changes being made.. is this expected?
I have now patched to 0.974 beta 02, thought this might possibly revert it back but it's just the same.
Here's my bookmarks from the places file. The first is the original planet (which previously had many neighbours), the second is to go just to the system, which for me, is now just a planetless binary star system.

What's going on here? What do you guys see here? I know there are probably billions of tasty Oceania's out there but well.. I had a thing for this one.. I like it's night sky :P And also I don't think this sort of thing is suposed to happen.
You are now breathing manually..

| I've found a bug:
This red giant can be seen through the ship. I've tested a bit and discovered that the problem occurs when the ship is in interstellar space, yet the star is actually big enough to still be seen as a disk(such is the case of many red giants).
--------------------------------- I have found another bug:
As you can see, once the start screen is brought up, the smaller binary star becomes a black circle(as shown in the red circle above). I was only able to replicate the bug in binary systems where one star is much larger than its companion(red giant-main sequence star pairs). In other binary systems, the problem isn't present.

| Quote JonasTheRoman ( ) That looks like the new hyperjump animation! biggrin
Indeed! The first thing I thought of was the "Stargate" sequence from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
EDIT: Yes, Deathstar, I've been noticing that one since at least 0.9.7.2 - it never bothered me enough to remember to report it. Good catch!
EDIT AGAIN: Space Engineer, on the subject of bugs that have been mildly bothering me for a long time, Mag Limit and Galaxy brightness settings do not persist from one session to the next - I like them a certain way, and I have to re-adjust them every time I start the program.

| I've found another bug:
Despite the star being behind the planet, the lens flare is still there. I'm going to go and see in what situations this bug seems to arise.
EDIT: The bug seems to arise in white giant - white dwarf binaries.

Cool!
Just one question:
Where are we supposed to report bugs for the latest public beta (0.9.7.4 patch_n:latest number)? In this thread or in the troubleshooting thread of latest official full release? I am a bit confused - sorry for stupid question

| Quote Brett001 ( ) Planets: Show coordinate grid with Lat/Lon number on planets (on/off mode) Show points of the compass on horizon (Stellarium like) (on/off mode)
I second this! I always have to spend a while figuring out where I am in relation to the equator / poles and which way I'm travelling, although this is actually the wrong thread for suggestions Brett001, it's intended for bug Id'ing. Check your suggestions aren't in here already and if not, post in there. Keep the grid and compass overlay suggestions separate from the one about stars though. The atmospheric info is planned but not a priority at the moment (but yeah, I can't wait!.. but we have to )
Edit: I made a thread about lat/lon grid and compass - here it is

| Quote DoctorOfSpace ( ) Would it be possible, maybe even as an optional cvar, to enable the ship engines effect instead of thrusters while using UFO mode? HIP 45296 6.1 seems to be doing something weird. Fixed both
Quote DarkenTerra ( ) Though it's strange but why my Oceanias still have bugs? Your screenshot is invisible.
Quote AiioFlux ( ) Generated System Switched from Planetful to Planetless after crash - bug? This sometimes happen in star clusters.
Quote DeathStar ( ) I have found another bug: As you can see, once the start screen is brought up, the smaller binary star becomes a black circle This is not a bug actually, this is how bloom effect interacts with the new (in 0.972 it was new) star particle rendering. Bloom is disabled for them to avoid "overbloom". But the menu background in the bloom texture. You can notice that problem with any bright point source (star, planet, even galaxy and ship).
Quote Destructor1701 ( ) EDIT AGAIN: Space Engineer, on the subject of bugs that have been mildly bothering me for a long time, Mag Limit and Galaxy brightness settings do not persist from one session to the next - I like them a certain way, and I have to re-adjust them every time I start the program. This is not a bug, I deliberately did it, to protect SE from too low or loo large values, left from the previous session. SE may crash if you set up too high mag limit. but at next launch it will be 7.0 again. You can always change the default limit in the config (main.cfg).
Quote DeathStar ( ) I've found another bug: Despite the star being behind the planet, the lens flare is still there. I'm going to go and see in what situations this bug seems to arise. EDIT: The bug seems to arise in white giant - white dwarf binaries. This is not a bug. Lens flares are rendered before gravity lens effect (black holes, neutron stars, white dwarfs and ships warp field have it), to prevent the "decoupling" effect. Thus it can't be blocked by planet, because it is already drawn.

| Two things, a bug and a complaint:
The bug ----------------------------------------- This might have been reported already, but some planets act just plain weird:
Not only does the planet itself get messed up(it gets a white circle around itself, not shown in this picture as it only appears in certain positions) but it also, as you can see, does very strange things to the background/other objects too. Only some planets are affected by this - I can't determine any actual characteristics of the planet that might be causing it.
The complaint: ---------------------------------------- I don't if this has something to do with the fact that the magnitude limit is 8, but in a typical spiral galaxy, the night sky is OVERLOWING with diffuse nebulae:
All those red/pinkish dots? Diffuse nebulae. Though it looks cool, it probably isn't very realistic, at least to my knowledge.Added (30.05.2015, 18:52) --------------------------------------------- I've noticed that central stars in planetary nebulae and supernova remnants don't generate(at first I thought that we finally got SNRs without remnant stars, but then I realised that remnant stars were gone in all nebulae). I suppose that this might have been intentional, considering how buggy these stars were in the last version(terrible performance near them, not rendering, not being clickable etc.).

| A bug? ============================================================= I destroyed a ship which i was taking control. Of course, this leaves me with universal coordinates mode (no ref. body). Then when I zoom away from the planet my ship was orbiting, within a certain distance, not any other bodies are rendered. image 2 was taken with no auto exposure and 7.0 mag. limit ============================================================ red unknown gas around a blue giant?
