Troubleshooting and bug reports - SpaceEngine 0.9.7.2

Please post here all of your reports about bugs or crashes in SpaceEngine. Before you post any bugs, please follow these steps:

  • First of all, make sure you make a clean install of SpaceEngine and update your video card drivers. This may solve 99% of all isues.
  • Read the Fixing common issues section below. It is possible that your problem can be solved there.
  • Read the List of known issues section below and make sure that your bugs are not on in it. You can use your browser's word finder to help search the list.
  • If the bug is not on the list then please post it in this thread. Attach to your message a screenshot (if possible) and a log file (it's called the se.log and is located in the SpaceEngine/system/ directory). Only the log file will help us to understand your problem and find a solution!



    Fixing videocard-specific issues

    If you do not know which videocard do you have, open the system/se.log file in the text editor and read the Vendor information in the beginning:

    Nvidia: Major lag spikes


    ATI/AMD: Transparent or invisible planets, no landscape

    Intel HD: Glitchy landscape and textures on planets


    Intel HD: Crash near planets


    Intel HD: Red clouds on Earth




    Fixing common issues

    1) Obsolete or incompatible drivers or strange error message "(NULL) 2.1 (NULL)"


    2) Weak system


    3) System with hybrid graphics (NVidia/ATI + Intel HD)


    4) Artifacts on procedural planets


    5) Frequent crashing while generating planetary surface


    6) Spaceship disappears when far from a star


    7) Blurry textures on Solar system planets


    8) Crash on entering the Display menu


    9) Problems with very high resolution displays

    There seems to be something weird with the lighting here. The largest moon of this world casts significant amounts of light on the planet, but this continues even when the moon is eclipsed by the planet.

    Am I missing something and the light is coming from elsewhere? Is this potentially a problem with my settings? Or is this an actual bug where the engine isn't taking into account eclipsing when doing the lightning?

    That said, the fact that light from moons is taken into account at all is pretty cool. Nice work!

    EDIT: I've attached some pictures to demonstrate the issue. 0 shows it with the moon eclipsed, 1 shows it with the moon in the planet's night sky but not eclipsed, and 2 shows it with the moon on the far side of the planet.

    Also, did I mention how neat it is that reflected light is taken into account when lighting up the moons?

    My game keeps crashing near the starting planet. I tried the solution to "Crashing near A planet" and it still crashed. Is there anyway I can fix this problem?

    isdebesl, can you tell us what your graphics card is, and how much Vram you have?

    The GPU is the most important part in this game. RAM isn't that important.

    there is someone who has the features recommended for computer SE like me? 4 GB of RAM, 3.40GHz, nvidia graphics card, if there is someone can tell me how it goes SE? if it goes quite well, without lag near the planets, or full of lag and crash.

    I have an i5 3570k with HD Graphics 4000 + 8gb ram 1600 MHz, my "Space Engine" was freezing in the last days.. I think i need a graphic card, but I don't know which to choose, I do not want spend too much money, mainly because these technological products are very expensive in Brazil.. angry

    I have a freshly reinstalled SE 0.9.7.2, but I am experiencing some strange artifacts that I have never seen before. The default models (Solar System, Milky Way, Andromeda, etc.) are covered by some strange color schemes and shapes that only happens when zoomed out enough of the object. They are not spikes, as the photograph of Milky Way reveals, but I have never seen such thing happening before with 0.9.7.1 and the first two months of 0.9.7.2 since December. It only started appearing during the past week or two. I have the latest nVidia drivers (347.52) and I suspect that is the problem. The previous version (347.09 I believe) gave me this and so I tried to update the driver with no avail. Any help is appreciated.

    System specs:
    i7-4700HQ @ 3.40 GHz
    12 GB DDR3 RAM
    nVidia GeForce GTX 765M 2GB VRAM

    W/e, my situation "improved", I can get into the game, with HUGE lag spikes(settings set to the lowest point possible), whenever I rotate around the planet, my FPS drops a lot, also I noticed when I try to go to some galaxy, it won't view it(like nothing's in front of me, like I'm looking through a glass), and after 2-5 seconds of waiting for Galaxy to load, SE freezes, and my RAM gets eaten with no memory left (0 MB), even though I have 4 GBs usable. (everything used to be fine in earlier versions)

    I search for "controls" in this thread and found nothing... if this has been prevoiusly reported, accept my apology.

    There is a bug related to saving control button mapping.

    If I connect a controller such as a Thrustmaster racing wheel (it is fun to fly through space with one of these biggrin ), set all of my buttons up, exit, start SE without the wheel plugged in, it will not remember that I once had the thrustmaster plugged in and would like to use its mapping the next time I use it.

    I have created a backup of my controls.cfg file to make sure I can always restore when this happens, but perhaps the next release could fix this so that an entry is perminently saved in the config file for each and every controller a person uses?

    Hey, I'm coming across a problem that I need resolving. when ever I go near something with the gravitational lensing effect, the program freezes and soon crashes. I've tried turning off lens flares but that just made the problem worse by which I mean, whenever I get close to a star it just crahed the program. Any advice to help alleviate my issue?

    So, I did that
    IgnoreCriticalCheck true thing, and now, right when I load planetarium, it crashes without any trace. How do I fix it?

    one thing: if you want to solve the lag when you're close to a planet or, at the surface go in main.cfg: "PlanetTextureRes 328 // texture resolution"and change 328 with 128, with me to work well and eliminated the lag, however, does not increase the speed of loading surface and crash which for me are very frequent.
