| Did you update the stellar surfaces as well? Might be mistaken but that looks different.
As for the sunspots, that looks pretty good so far.

| First pic : Do I dream or there are night lights on the planet ? Is this bioluminescence ?
Second pic : is there low frequency variations added ?
Want some music of mine ? Please go here !

That was literally the exact thing I was thinking. I dismissed it as dust on my monitor, but now I see that I'm not the only one that is seeing it.

| I may be mistaken but I think that is lava. The terra doesn't have life.

| I was noticing the same thing but the lights are green and yellow. Maybe an atmospheric effect ?

| Quote SpaceEngineer ( ) Also, ESI is now stable, not changing with time, because it uses average planet temperature value, not the current one.
Can there be an option for (min, average, max) ESI instead, using min, average, and max temperature? Some planets with high orbital eccentricity with average temperature ~288K might have an average ESI far below 1.

| Yes I added low-frequency flow-like noise. And yes there some test night lights on the planet - I forgot to disable them before taking this screenshot. It was simple fractal just to tweak rendering shaders, no more. I didn't worked on bioluminescence yet.

| To summarize the questions about the first image I increased the brightness and contrast:
Edit: I didn't realize that SpaceEngineer was responding while I was writing this hahahaha (you so fast)
I wouldn't like to see bioluminescence yet (we have no idea of what is the probability for this kind of things) By the way great job! The solar surface seems quite beautifull with those variations of cooler-hotter areas. The spot looks not so beautifull to me (I prefer the ones we have now) but you are going to change it so I bet it's going to be amazing.
If you want some formulas or information to perform a good render of those maybe this Magneto-Hydrodynamical (MHD) simulations and studies can help for the morphology, distribution and motion of Sunspots.
This is the most referenced paper on sunspots The results of their simulations are quite astonishing and accurate (with supercomputers obviusly). Maybe SE could imitate the pattern shown with some kind of algorithm without making the precise calculations.
This is a web page dediacted to the sunspots simultion and has plenty of informtation and links to other papers
This is a paper about penumbra fine structure (maybe for SE 2.0 or far beyond becuase this is quite extreme for programming xD)
This one is a continuation of the previous with amazing results
This paper is also a fundamental on the solar spots morphogenesis (important for close spots)
By the way (this is only related). I've found an article about the starspots and their variety in stellar classification (SE it's amazing because of accounting for this). Maybe someone wants to check the rigour of SE reading the enciclopedia of sunspots on other stars. There's interesting information to take into account for future versions of SE.
I think the great mayority of the time we, users, spend on SE's Universe is all about exploring planets, and because of that I think the stellar surfaces must include complex phenomena (not only starspots but also flares, protuberances, spikes and filaments) and variations on different stellar classes to maybe distribute better the proportion of our interests when flying through the galaxy. And to focuss some attention on stars (that are incredibly beautifull and certainly would be a remarkable landscpae to explore while traveling beyond mere planets).

| On that image of the planet; what are those arc'ed white and red lights by the two suns? Have I missed something in this thread; are they a new feature? (if so what?)
