Why do all you devlopment screenshots does take place on the same planets ? I know they're not far from earth 'cause I see pleiades.

Actually, I was wondering too.

One can even see Aldebaran not far from the Hyades, which means the planet can't be far away at all, since Aldebaran is only 65 light years from here. Also Auriga, with Capella (42 ly), is not very distorted.

Maybe SpaceEngineer shows us the closes terra with life smile

Love Space Engine!

Normally, I wouldn't quote myself, because it's sort of vain and redundant. But, after seeing Space Engineer's water video, I can't resist:

I wonder how difficult it'd be to impliment the water from the Direct3D video in OpenGL? O_o It isn't something I've any experience with, but I would think it would take a ton of coding. Yes? No?

MY BAD. Never mind. I never said this: ^ ... xD That's amazing. Wonderful work!!

[EDIT]
I guess it's time to upgrade my 9600GT video card...

I was wondering about the new water with noise, I guess all the planets with oceans have now this new effect?
Is there a possibility that some worlds with strong gravity, heavy fluids and weak winds can't have such small waves effects on their ocean's surfaces?
Even on Titan, the gravity is low, the wind blows, but they have not find any waves yet :
Quote
Here on Earth, bodies of water are rarely still. Breezes blowing across the surface cause waves to ripple and break; raindrops striking sea surfaces also provide some roughness. Yet on Titan, the lakes are eerily smooth, with no discernable wave action down to the millimeter scale, according to radar data from Cassini.

I was wondering about Titan myself, last night. Also, I was wondering about the color of heavier fluids. What if a planet has oceans or rivers of mercury?

Mercury is silver in color, of course, but it's extremely unlikely that any planet would have large quantities of liquid mercury on its surface. Anyway, trying to tie the color of the liquids on each planet to the composition of the liquid cannot be done until the chemical composition of planets is modeled in SE, which will not be for a long time. The best that can be done for now is to have a small selection of colors for each world, and then to have it be chosen randomly, which is what is currently done.

Ah, I wasn't aware that something like that wouldn't occur. I do see what you mean, though. Chemical composition seems like it'd be ridiculously complex.

A mercury planet (if it exists) will be a "mirror" planet. Like a giant spherical mirror floating in space.

Darkloak, I don't understand why you say its chemical composition is complex. Mercury liquid is simple Hg. The problem is the rarity of Hg in the universe.

Oh, just coding something to handle chemical composition, in general. Sorry, I should have clarified. I'm not very familiar with coding, so the task of something like that seems like it would be daunting. wink

Gravity affect on wave length. Other parameters are not modeled in SE for now, so they don't affect.

Why don't you put all these new features on the OP? It still says 1 sep smile

Lol... xD *watches as the conversation screeches to a halt and sits in neutral, idling*

I would love to see waves, eventually. All in good time, of course. I'm on the edge of my chair, watching the developments continue. happy I'm actually anxious to play with the HUD that was featured in the earlier screenshots.
