| There are ~10 000 catalog galaxies. As for procedural galaxies, there are a lot. Many billions, if not more. In future versions there will likely be even more.

| Vinny, you should have posted this question with your other galaxy questions and just made the thread to be a general galaxies question thread. A new thread should not be created for every small question.
As for the farthest galaxy, at present the galaxies are generated in a 10 Gpc x 10 Gpc x 10 Gpc cube, so the farthest possible galaxy would be sqrt( (10*sqrt(2))/2)2 + (10/2)2 ) gigaparsecs away, or ~8.66 Gpc away. As for the particular galaxy, just fly until you find one of the walls of the galaxy cube, then fly up until you find an edge, then fly along that until you find a corner, and then just select the galaxy closest to that vertex. You can try this with all 8 vertices until you find the "farthest galaxy".

| Hi, HarbingerDawn!
Okay, got it! Thanks! As far as the farthest away galaxy goes, you're saying the farthest away galaxy is 8.66 Gpc or 8,660,000,000 parsecs away from earth? The universe in space engine is very, very huge - about 13,700,000,000 light years in diameter I think. Thanks!
Cheers, Vincent

| Sorry, I meant gigaparsecs. I'll edit my post to correct it. So that's ~8.66 billion parsecs.
Quote (Vinny) The universe in space engine is very, very huge - about 13,700,000,000 light years in diameter I think. Thanks! No. The SE universe and the real universe are both much bigger than that.

| The universe is 13.7 billion years old, meaning the light from the furthest things in our visible universe travelled that long. However, due to the expansion of the universe, their distance is more like 40 billion light years. And this is just our visible universe; the complete universe is much bigger (probably infinitely so).

| Quote (Vinny) Holy mackerel! That's amazing!! Do you know what the name of the galaxy that is 8.66 billion parsecs away? Thanks! Like I explained in my post Vinny, that's just the farthest possible distance that a galaxy could be in SE. I gave you instructions on how to find the actual farthest galaxy.

| A vertex is a corner of a polygon of polyhedron...
There are 8 corners on a cube, so 8 vertices.

| I'm going to try and find this, although I might be gone for a long time.
Also, there's nothing wrong with the way Vinny is posting! It's actually pretty cool, good idea for a thread Vinny.
