I hate to keep pushing stars out of the list, but I keep finding big ones!

That's alright, we'll get to a certain point where finding something worthy of the list will be extremely hard at some point!
I've updated the list and also added fancy little graphics for 1-3rd place.

| I wonder how this contest will change when 0.96 appears... Maybe there will be even bigger stars then, even ones to take VY Canis Majoris' place as the biggest star of them all.

| There will probably have to be a completely separate contest for 0.96 since the procedural generation algorithms will have changed. This contest should still remain open though since anyone can still go back into 0.95 to hunt for stars for it
And Talisman, in case you didn't see it because of all the other posts, look here

I don't know, I haven't given it much thought but I just planned on keeping it for the most current version, when 0.96 comes out just save the latest 0.95 list and then start a new 0.96 list, maybe even have the list work for both versions. I don't know.
And CONGRATULATIONS! That is laaaaaaaaarge! I'm updating the list now.
10.717 AU, M5 II - HarbingerDawn - (Largest Current Record) RS 10280-898-0-0-99
Also, I find it strange that the RS code ends in 99, since almost ALL the other entries end in 0-0-0 (the brightest generated stars in a galaxy end in 0-0-0?) I thought 0-0-0 meant it was the largest but that's clearly not the case, perhaps there are much larger giants out there that are so dispersed and dim that they're incredibly hard to find using the regular old messing around with luminosity until you find the brightest red dots. Anyways, well done. I wonder if there are any bigger then that.

I thought 0-0-0 meant it was the largest but that's clearly not the case It was the largest red giant in the 898 group, all the other stars (0-98) were blue stars; brighter, but obviously much smaller. In general, the 0-0-0 rule is a good one to go by, but it will not always be the case if the galaxy has blue stars as well (spiral, lenticular).
Quote (Talisman) incredibly hard to find using the regular old messing around with luminosity until you find the brightest red dots That's actually how I found both of my largest stars (I used other methods for the others, neither of which proved as effective). Going after the brightest red stars in a galaxy really is the most efficient way of finding the biggest ones.
Quote (Talisman) I wonder if there are any bigger then that. I'm sure there are, but I'm going to take a break from star hunting and give someone else a chance to find the biggest one. We should have a courtesy rule, where if you find the biggest star no one else should post a larger one until 3 days have passed and you get to name it, so as many people as possible have a chance to be "winners".

| This is an old thread, I know, but is this open for Spaceengine 0.96? Or should a seperate thread be made for it? Because as far as I know it looks like the giant stars haven't changed much and this competition is still valid.

| If possible, I'd love to keep it open for 0.96, and perhaps forever! If the star sizes haven't changed much then great. I'll add an identifier for what version the stars are from.

| I actually tried to find some more stars for this in 0.96 not long after it came out, but could barely find any larger than 10 AU. It seems the really large red supergiants aren't as large as they were. Or I looked in the wrong galaxies.

| I think I read something about super giants having their luminosity turned down in 0.96 so the typical way of finding them might not work any more, might be a lot harder now.

| Aaaand you know why i asked
Edit: My strategy, look for the very large binary blue stars. Typically, their companion is a bright or luminous giant.
Also, you can turn up the magnitude by a lot (emphasize "a lot") and look at the brighter red stars while flying around, maybe'll you'll get lucky (I've found a few this way, but not record breakers)

| ^Hahaha, that's a hilarious screenshot. I love it when stars have a day side and a night side, but I've only ever seen it on red dwarfs, never on red giants.
