Ok so I noticed in Avatar when you first see Polyphemus, appears very close to Pandora (WAY closer than in SpaceEngine). So I moved Pandora closer to match the movie.
SE

Avatar

Only one problem.

So then I realized Polyphemus's size must be wrong. (It's radius is set to 58000km). So I looked up Polyphemus's size and couldn't find anything, except this thread: Scale Of Pandora
Is Pandora unrealistically close to Polyphemus in that shot? Or is Polyphemus just MASSIVE?
Also, I tried changing the texture and color of Polyphemus, but it wouldn't work. Any help with that?

Yeah, it seems that they didn't do their research when thinking up the sizes of the planets.

They may have used a low fov to get that shot so the distance in se might be correct.

With a very annoyingly low and impractical FOV.

Edit: Damn 2 people beat me to it while I sat adjusting FOV for my post sad

-----

Definitely seems like an FOV kind of thing

FOV 60 as is default in SE

Then default Zoom FOV at 20

And then a lower FOV of 10 gets you closer to like in the image from the movie

Finally an FOV of 5

So it seems to definitely be an FOV thing

Yeah, it seems SpaceEngine's silly large standard FOV of 60 degrees, even though 20 degrees is much more realistic, given the size and distance of most computer screens, is part of the problem. The rest is James Cameron cheating with an even smaller FOV as if they were looking through binoculars, presumably.

Now that he mentioned it , i was always curious to find out what kind of video card you should have to render that type of graphics how much GB would consume to play that kind of game in such enormous details biggrin

Each frame would probably take minutes to render, and the game would be unplayable smile
