| Dear SE users - hello! First of all, I'm sorry for my broken English, I hope it is understandable. On the Russian part of this forum the community has decided to help SpaceEngineer with the music for SE. Maybe English user can take part in this activity too?

| Music exists naturally in space. There is no sound in the void, but with an electromagnetic system, we can record the vibrations of the atmospheres of planets. That was made for example on voyager missions, and you can hear it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7jEUXF7Mo8 That we heard is principally the action of the solar wind on the extern layer of Jupiter. I think it is possible to generate such sounds with a computed algorithm. Stars are also diffusing noises in the universe (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7687286.stm).
Want some music of mine ? Please go here !

| I agree with Voekoevaka. There are tons of Youtube vids with this stuff. I think it would make great SE background music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLDWKpAkRHs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lqc8Ttep6A&feature=relmfu

| I recommend Vangelis, a greek composer of mostly synth stuff
He did the album for Cosmos, as well as Blade Runner. These are both very appropriate albums. Another one called "Chariots of Fire" is also good.
i3 370M 2.3Ghz ATI Radeon 5650 8GB DDR3 Win 7 (runs SE suprisingly well for a laptop!)

| would be interesting to have songs, however perhaps SE will eventually get sound on some planets with atmosphere sound of wind, crashes, storms, etc ... therefore without any audio is better defined for now but I look forward

hi
i completely agree with this kind of a sound, different but specific to each world. i do prefer natural based planet sounds, like jupiter's for gas giants. the sound sould raise as we approach to the planet, something like this. on terras we should listen to the wind or jungle or birds or bees or stuff like that depending on the environnement... no real music, just natural sounds
what do you think ??

| Quote (Voekoevaka) the vibrations of the atmospheres of planets. I would like to hear this when you are close to a planet, but still out of its atmosphere. Then, when you enter the atmosphere you hear wind and, at ground level (only with life planets) you could hear birds at day and crikets at night, and when you were near the sea, to hear the waves. I dont know how difficult is to do, but it would be nice. Maybe then you could put a music player to choose what music you want to hear. But when you aren't close to any planet, don't put any sound, because...
"In space no one can hear you scream"
Oh and you could put some sound near the ships, it would be nice

I am a musician and have already contacted Space Engineer and I am working on music and ambient sounds and I think there are a few more English speaking musicians as well. I am really happy that I can give something back to this amazing project.
Quote (metaloz) would be interesting to have songs, however perhaps SE will eventually get sound on some planets with atmosphere sound of wind, crashes, storms, etc ... Hi Metaloz,
From a musician's standpoint, creating these sounds is actually quite fun. As for "natural" sounds, it's really become very streamlined in the digital environment. When bands like The Beatles experimented with sound manipulation it was all done with tape editing and was often an excruciatingly long process and quite messy Cutting edge instruments like the Korg Kronos - which is part of my studio arsenal - allows musicians to manipulate and create sounds in ways the pioneers of aural experimentation simply could not. As an example, there is an engine in Kronos called STR-1. Basically it's a physical modeling engine that allows the creator to define all of the characteristics of how a string responds when plucked, scraped, picked, etc. While its original purpose what to accurately model stringed instruments - which it does very well - the engine can also create sounds that bear absolutely no resemblance to strings at all. There are many other techniques that can be combined as well and really there is no limit to what can be created in a digital environment.
Quote (scavenger) i completely agree with this kind of a sound, different but specific to each world. i do prefer natural based planet sounds, like jupiter's for gas giants. the sound sould raise as we approach to the planet, something like this. on terras we should listen to the wind or jungle or birds or bees or stuff like that depending on the environnement... no real music, just natural sounds
Obviously this will be Space Engineer's call, but why limit choices? Just as in a game where you can choose to turn off music, you could have that option in SE. What I am going to do is to create music and ambient natural sounds so that Space Engineer has as much material to work with as possible. He mentioned recently that he already has a lot of stuff available from other composerrs and more is on the way. For me, as far as the music component, I want to create music that is as non-intrusive as possible yet complements the visual experience as well. I see SE as far more than a space simulation. It's also a maginificent work of art. My position would be that users have choices.
In general to anyone who might be interested here's some trivia:
On The Beatles' song "Tomorrow Never Knows" the seagulls you hear are not seagulls at all. The sound you hear is actually McCartney recorded laughing. Sir George Martin then played with the recording and as you can hear, it sounds nothing at all like McCartney.
The Doors' song "Riders on the Storm" has soft peals of thunder throughout. But here's the fun part: that thunder is not recorded thunder. The Doors' sound engineer took a brick and dropped it into a metal rubbish bin and recorded it. In the studio, the engineer slowed the recording down, added some reverb and a few other studio effects and created thunder!
Best, Vlad

| Space Engineer made the music player on SE, but I don't have any idea of what kind of music he puts on it (if he done it), but I don't think someone made some "official soundtracks", so... I am a musician, I made all sountracks for my games, and, you know, we could make something like "Space Engine official soundtracks", I think it's a good idea, and, if i'm not the only musician, we could work together...
However, I'm still not sure about it, I don't know if it's better to wait for a possible game, made with Space Engine, despite this, I don't know if he can put on SE other-people music
