Please post here all of your reports about bugs or crashes in SpaceEngine. Before you post any bugs, please follow these steps:

  • First of all, make sure you make a clean install of SpaceEngine and update your video card drivers. This may solve 99% of all isues.
  • Read the Fixing common issues section below. It is possible that your problem can be solved there.
  • Read the List of known issues section below and make sure that your bugs are not on in it. You can use your browser's word finder to help search the list.
  • If the bug is not on the list then please post it in this thread. Attach to your message a screenshot (if possible) and a log file (it's called the se.log and is located in the SpaceEngine/system/ directory). Only the log file will help us to understand your problem and find a solution!

    Fixing videocard-specific issues

If you do not know which videocard do you have, open the system/se.log file in the text editor and read the Vendor information in the beginning:

    INITIALIZING OPENGL
    [MT] Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.

Then look for a solution for you:

    Nvidia: Major lag spikes

ATI/AMD: Transparent or invisible planets, no landscape

ATI/AMD: Crash on approaching to the black hole, neutron star or white dwarf, on using ship's hyperdrive, or when enabling the Oculus Rift mode or the Fish Eye mode

Intel HD: Glitchy landscape and textures on planets

    Intel HD: Crash near planets

Intel HD: Red clouds on Earth

    Fixing common issues

    1) Obsolete or incompatible drivers or strange error message "(NULL) 2.1 (NULL)"

    2) Weak system

    3) System with hybrid graphics (NVidia/ATI + Intel HD)

    4) Artifacts on procedural planets

    5) Frequent crashing while generating planetary surface

    6) Spaceship disappears when far from a star

    7) Blurry textures on Solar system planets

    8) Crash on entering the Display menu

    9) Problems with very high resolution displays

    List of known issues

Green items have been fixed for the next release

Not real bugs, but effects caused by limitations in the engine:

I cannot confirm this, they work perfectly for me.

I forgot to mention that this issue affects normal and super diffraction spikes. Simple spikes have their flaws however, so i will stick to normal. Perhaps this problem is related to some other gfx settings. I'll try to do some more testing.

EDIT: Looks like it has something to do with Real Sun Brightness option. When i disabled it, spikes have started to work properly. Can you check this?

P.S. I don't use auto exposure. It can also be important.

Try adjusting "night side lights" value or toggling atmospheres. They do have some light, but it is absorbed by their atmosphere. And as you pointed out, star surface brightness and planet illumination are poorly related.

It works, but changing settings every time i want to look at brown dwarves is less than perfect solution. I will look forward for future update.

Yes, I just tested, and that is the cause.

Made an account to hopefully get this fixed.

Anyways whenever i get near anything with significant gravitational lensing my game crashes such as a black hole, neutron star, white dwarfs, ect. I have the se.log attached.

"Compress textures" option turned on in the graphics menu

Oh my thank you! I disabled it and the artifacts are gone! (at this point you may as well remove it though seeing as I didn't feel any perf hit after disabling it)

...however, there are a few things that are still strange. For example, I'm not sure if "normal" auto-exposure is intended to completely kill off all lens flares and diff. spikes when viewing a star from the atmosphere of a planet. "Super" diff. spikes also seem to be broken, if I try to use the "super" setting I get these amorphous blobs that only vaguely resemble the shape of the selected setting (for example, Astroniki 3 on super does not show any rays or lens flare, just a big yellow blotch, as if the star sprite was simply scaled up x100 and plastered on the screen)

Born too early to explore space... But just in time for Space Engine.

    PC Specs:
    GTX 770 (2GB VRAM) - i5 4570 - 8GB RAM

It wouldn't affect performance, just memory consumption.

Read the known issues list. This is an unfinished feature.

Super has its own set of issues and limitations due to how it works and how each lens flare was made.

I should probably point out that Normal is not better than Simple, and Super is not better than Normal. They each have their advantages and disadvantages compared to each other. They're just different ways of handling lens flares, each of which has different capabilities.

Okay first of all, my congratulations to Vladimir for this amazing and wonderful (master) piece of Software cry yahoo

So far everything is running beyond my expectations. However when I warp or move to close to a degenerate object
the engine crashes... But I got that fixed now thanks to earlier replies. The only problem that remains now is that S.E. always crashes instantly when I press F2 on Sol (Sun). So I tried moving towards a Solar System object remotely and the outcome was exactly the Same... I really want to visit (our) my home planet T.T dry

Any ideas how to fix this, all help would be dearly appreciated !! biggrin
Just noticed the engine crashes too when I change a Star's flare (AstroNiki3 to Duality)

Hey i found a solution for the terrain on the Integrated graphics card! biggrin

Setting this line to true in in the player config did the trick... Though the only downside is that their is no terrain collision.

PlanetVSFetching true // planet mesh rendering mode

EDIT: Changing the height map format from 16 to 13 actually solved the issue entirely.. SE now works properly minus nebulas which ill see if I can fix that. smile

Hey, so I've been trying to get Space Engine running but it's not cooperating. I'll run it as an administrator and try to launch the planetarium, but it'll crash immediately once I click the button. Attached is the .log file. My specs are:

    CPU: Intel Core i7 930 2.8 GHz
    RAM: 8 GB
Video: ATI Radeon HD 5900 (2x)
    VRAM: 2048 MB

Is there a way to stop the crashing? I've wanted to explore in this engine for so long, it's a little disheartening to have it crash immediately.

Donatelo200, thanks, I will add it to the OP, despite on this didn't solve an issue on an Intel PC where I tried to test it.

I can no longer play 9.7.2 it's because it keeps crashing when the splash screen appears.

Sorry, but I can't seem to find anything in there to help in this specific situation. Do you mean the "Obsolete or incompatible drivers" section?
