| Quote Salvo ( ) Great! It's time to buy a 3D TV guys
I must say that passive (polarization) TVs works badly with SE. Polarization filters are not ideal, they cannot separate left and right channels perfectly. On high contrast scenes, such as stars and planets on the black background, you will see triple image - one normal and two "ghosts" in left and right off it. Unfortunately, high-contrast scenes are very common in SE, unlike 3D movies.
Maybe more expensive polarization 3D screens or more expensive glasses have no problem with channels separation. Or maybe shutter-type screens (100 Hz plasma with active shutter glasses) have no this problem at all. Future tests will show it.

| Passive 3D TV (like mine) have a very narrow cone of "where you can see 3D perfectly" (ie: with no ghosts). It like 50° horizontal and only 15-20° vertical span to be able to watch things great. But playing WipEout HD Fury in 3D is awesome!
I thought that making 3D technology-ready games had to only care about giving the two "cameras", and then these would be given to 3D VISION/Hydra/Occulus Rift/Other 3D technologies to take the right action (side by side, top-bottom, analygraph ), etc.)
Anyway, a tip for those who don't have 3D-ready material, just cross your eyes on the side-by-side pictures and enjoy the perspective

The 3-D in Gravity was fine. Was another method used for Gravity?

Engine also must support rendering in two buffers. I have a lot other issues with adapting SE for 3D.

I can do it, but it takes a lot of effort and sometimes gives me a headache. It's really tricky to focus at the right distance when you're doing that.
I occasionally stream at http://www.twitch.tv/magistermystax. Sometimes SE, sometimes other games.

Close right eye and block right image with right hand. Close left eye and block left image with left hand. After that, cross your eyes to fit two images into one.

| I thought that 3D support for SE wasn't going to be implemented - at least in the near future. I drew that conclusion from this thread.
Apparently I am wrong as this is one of the very 1st goals in the funding and donations page.
It is strange because this contradicts what has been discussed in the above thread. Don't get me wrong: I love 3D stuff - even though it is not real 3D. I just thought that given the complexity and the limitations of current technology and the fact that 3D is only percievable in short distances, it would have made more sense to leave its development for later. Anyway just a thought - don't take it too seriously

| I like the fact that SE is supporting more types of hardware. It is probably really cool playing it in 3D. Also, is this going to be a more-hardware-support update?

| Quote neutronium76 ( ) It is strange because this contradicts what has been discussed in the above thread. I implemented support for Oculus Rift. Adding another 3D modes is just few lines of code (well, few hundreds). 3D gives good impression of depth - you feel like looking in a window. Alien skies looks much more realistic with sense of depth. It is cool feeling and I like to provide it in SE.

| Too bad I couldn't donate a bit to Space Engine (well, my current age is a problem for that sort of stuff ^^), but if I could I would probably have donated some, even just to be able to play in 3D, whenever I can connect my 3D TV into my computer (because Analygraph for Space Engine, too bad and color wash, yuck)
From the pics you posted (I finally watched them in *real* 3D), it's one hell of a dive into immersion!

| Nothing inherently bad about 3dtv's. A lot of the content made for them was just not done properly, toe-in stereo 3d etc. I'm mostly excited for the rift support though. The headtracking/FOV is about 80 percent of the immersion. And the 3D is very good if done properly, I don't even necessarily like calling it 3D as basically you feel like you are present. I am very excited to check it out with SE. Hopefully after I win the lottery I will be able to donate a DK2 to you so we can get the positional tracking added!

| Is there anything like a 3d screenshot export? And for videos? Being able to make 3D videos of Space Engine would be awesome !
