A question was asked and unanswered : What is planned (apart from what is written in the top of the thread) for this 0.9.7.2 ?
Have you already some ideas ?

I am currently planning to buy a new computer, since I can't play SE anymore since the 0.9.7.1...(or with too low options)

Inarius, a similar question was asked on the russian forums, and SpaceEngineer said that he mostly doesn't directly plan what he will implement in an update.

Instead of an upper limit on galaxy size of 100 kpc, there should be a higher upper limit and an exponential increase in the rarity of galaxies once you start to approach it. This way you aren't stuck with lots of galaxies at exactly 100kpc; it's unnatural and exposes the artificiality of the engine. So I'm sure this was suggested a billion times before- perhaps .972 is a good time to implement this?

No, that's not what I meant. What I mean is have an upper limit of around 110. As you go from 100-110, galaxies get increasingly more rare, so that the chances of there being one at exactly 110 are zero.

A 1mpc galaxy is unrealistic- it's way too big.

Maybe that's an artifact of how the engine has to play with coordinates in order to be able to go from the infinitely large almost to human scale?

By "as you start to approach it" I mean mathematically. The number of galaxies for a given size gets lower and lower as the value for size approaches a limit. For example, if the upper limit was 110: if you look hard you'll find a 104.33 kpc galaxy, which would be rare. A 109.21 kpc galaxy is much, much rarer, and 109.97 kpc galaxy would be next to impossible.

Now I know SE's methods for all this are much more complicated than this, and there may be different values for different types of galaxies, etc. The main point here is avoiding round numbers like 100,000 pc that you don't find in nature.

I'm not talking about literally approaching a galaxy inside of SpaceEngine.

I don't think so. But even if that was the case, it does not invalidate werdna's suggestion so have a limit on galaxy size that's reached exponentially, so that the largest galaxies don't all have the same size, but have various values which approach some upper limit.

A good model for galaxy size distributions is log-normal, with each class of galaxy (spiral, elliptical, irregular) having its own distribution. The largest elliptical galaxies are much larger than the largest disks, by about an order of magnitude.
