Please post here all of your reports about bugs or crashes in SpaceEngine. Before you post any bugs, please follow these steps:

  • Read the Troubleshooting for SpaceEngine 0.97. It is possible that your problem can be solved there.

  • Make sure that your bugs are not on the following list of known issues. You can use your browser's word finder to help search the list.

  • If the bug is not on the list then please post it in this thread. Attach to your message a screenshot (if possible) and a log file (it's called the "se.log" and is located in the system folder of SpaceEngine's directory). Only the log file will help me to understand your problem and find a solution.

i have a bit of a problem going fullscreen

Make sure that the fullscreen resolution settings in the main.cfg file are set to the proper resolution for your monitor.

    Specifically, these lines:

    Code
UseDesktopSettings   false    // use desktop settings for fullscreen mode (fullscreen window style)
ScreenSizeX           1920    // screen x resolution (when UseDesktopSettings false)
ScreenSizeY           1080    // screen y resolution (when UseDesktopSettings false)
DisplayRefresh        60    // refresh frequency (when UseDesktopSettings false)

Change them to whatever is appropriate in your case.

I've found that objects with extremely high orbital eccentricity (seems to be anything >~0.9 e) have a weird rendering bug where if the exact center of the object isn't in view, the entire object disappears. This becomes problematic when near objects, because the object should take up a large portion of the field of view and yet is only visible when you look straight at its center.

    Log:

EDIT: There also appears to be two Fomalhaut stars in the catalogs, offset slightly from eachother by about 0.016 pc. One of them is logged in stars/exoplanets.sc and the other one i believe is probably in stars/stars.sc. Their RA and Dec are apparently the same- the two Fomalhauts and Sol are collinear and the Fomalhaut in the exoplanets catalog is about 0.016 pc farther from Sol than the one in the stars catalog.

EDIT EDIT: The engine seems to refuse to allow tidal locking of planets around white dwarves when I place a planet incredibly close to the star.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: The engine assigns temperatures to white dwarf stars from their arabic numeral N based not on the formula 50400 K/Teff=N but in a matter that makes the temperatures of DA DB DC DO DQ DZ stars resemble the temperatures of O B A F G K M stars, respectively.

No. It makes artifacts on the coast lines.

One more thing I noticed : I often see perfect circular craters on selenas. Sometimes with a small spherical mountain at the center. These looks very artificial.

On the same planet, I saw stranges color change lines :

You were on an oceania, there are no coasts... also, the clouds showing through the ocean is because there is nothing actually there unless you turn 3D water on. 2D water is just a blue textured landscape which is not at sea level.

I wasn't talking about the juncture, but about a fainter line.

I took the same screenshot, add an high pass filter and increased contrast to make it clearly visible. I put black spots on the line to show it.

You can compare with the original screenshot.

Also, you'll notice that they converge on the crater. It's an unremarkable landscape generation artifact of the kind that has been observed numerous times before. This is not new.

Also, for showing off very faint/low contrast details like that, please take screenshots in PNG format; JPEG introduces artifacts which make those details more difficult to see.

uhh, found this weird system that has a planet and its moons doing some psychedelic spinning disco ball visual. I can't do video as I have a brand new laptop and don't have capture software installed yet, but here is a pic with the coordinates

Hi RadPig94, welcome to the board.

That is certainly trippy, but this is a known bug which happens when the planet is illuminated by binary stars that are eclipsing one another. You can check out the Known issues and bug reports thread to find out if something you find has already been reported, and the forum's search feature is helpful as well.

The Forum Rules thread would also be good to check out.

If you're just sharing a random image, please use the Image Dump thread. Cuts down on thread clutter.

Also, welcome to the forums. smile
