Please post here all of your reports about bugs or crashes in SpaceEngine. Before you post any bugs, please follow these steps:

  • Read the Troubleshooting for SpaceEngine 0.97. It is possible that your problem can be solved there.

  • Make sure that your bugs are not on the following list of known issues. You can use your browser's word finder to help search the list.

  • If the bug is not on the list then please post it in this thread. Attach to your message a screenshot (if possible) and a log file (it's called the "se.log" and is located in the system folder of SpaceEngine's directory). Only the log file will help me to understand your problem and find a solution.

I'm not sure what happened, but galaxies are starting to render if I use the "go to" function. The galaxies don't render form a distance (so you can't see many galaxies when you are in intergalactic space) but when I "go to" them they show up. I can't tell you which ones didn't render form a distance because there are so many. The Milky Way, Andromeda, and Triangulum render, but that may be because they are close enough to make out clearly from the Milky Way. I can find an occasional group of random galaxies that render and I have noticed that you can see NGC 23 from NGC 1, but you can still kind of make out NGC 23's shape from NGC 1. I'm not sure if that is why it shows up, however.

NGC 1. NGC 23 is the only other galaxy visible in this shot.

osterizer8, Do you have auto increase galaxy magnitude on? Because when I turn it off, I can replicate the screenshot, with auto-magnitude on, I can see the shape of NGC 26 in the distance

Sounds like you simply have the auto magnitude off here.

As you approach, it looks opaque as it should, but around 65k km out, it starts transitioning to transparent and somewhere between 50k and 45k out, it starts transitioning to the near surface opaquity.

This happens with every oceania or very nearly and has been happening forever.

Oh, must have simply been particularily noticeable for that one and I had forgotten it was an ancient bug.

Spyro, do not create a new thread to report a bug. Report it here. Also, you should include details about the circumstances of your bug and your se.log file.

If you only wanted to share the picture rather than report a bug, then you should have posted it in the image dump.

Looks kind of like the bug I reported on the previous page, however, since it resembles the shimmering which happens during an eclipse, are you sure there isn't an eclipse of some kind like eclipsing binaries?

This is a far plane clipping the sky sphere.

Is that ths same thing as what's causing the bug I posted on the previous page. The second one seems related to the lines showing up.

No, your previous bug is a z-fighting (lost of precision of the z-buffer).

Oh, both of them (the one with the lines and the atmosphere shimmer) are caused by z-fighting?

No, atmosphere is clipped by far plane. It is a different thing.
All these issues are solved by logarithmic z-buffer, but it introduces a new issues.
