| Quote Billy_Mayes ( ) What's the game about? Homeworld was the first fully 3D RTS game (at least that I know of). It also had a good story, really cool universe, and very neat ship designs. Gameplay was good too. Campaign and multiplayer were both very enjoyable. I think it might have been the first game I ever played online It had a really nice online community, its players were generally very good-natured, friendly, and polite.
It had a stand-alone expansion (developed by a different studio) called Homeworld: Cataclysm, which was... awful, at least as far as single-player goes. But it had a lot of gameplay innovations compared to the first game, so strictly from a gameplay perspective it was good, and thus was popular for multiplayer games. But I never really got into it, I still preferred the first game.
Then the original devs came out with a sequel called Homeworld 2. It was certainly better than Cataclysm as far as single-player was concerned, but I still feel that it was not a worthy successor to Homeworld 1. They could have told a much better story given the universe they had to work with. Its ship designs were not nearly as good as those in the first game IMO (at least, they did not really match the style very well). The sound effects were also a bit weird, muffled in a way, almost like they couldn't decide if they wanted to have cool clear sound effects like in the first game, or wanted to be realistic and have very muffled sounds/no sounds, and then just decided to do something halfway in between those. It doesn't sound good at all compared to the first game. Also, its multiplayer level designs were pretty uninspired. But since it has enhanced gameplay and much nicer graphics than the original, and is perhaps more easily moddable, it gets played more to this day than the first game. And there's also the issue of it being really annoying to get HW1 and HW:C working properly on modern systems (Vista or later), while HW2 works fine.
But now with the re-release of the original coming, it can be played again by millions of people
As soon as it comes out, I'm ripping its models for SE (if it's possible!). HW1 had the coolest ships.

I thought that Far Gate was the 1st but Homeworld apparently beat it by two years.

| This is the greatest thing ever! They don't make ads like they used to...
Once SE has planetary rings implemented (might not be until the SDK), we'll be able to visit Halo in SpaceEngine, and that GeForce 2 GTS will be less useful than a microbe on a speck of dust.

| While I'm playing some fun stuff including a few MTG programs that allow play with every card ever printed and really good AI as well as getting hopelessly addicted to Starpoint Gemini 2 and a fun little space rogue-like called Approaching Infinity, I am ACHING for two games that I hope will come out next year, namely Limit Theory and No Man's Sky.
The developers of these games are raising the bar just as Vladimir is doing with Space Engine. Limit Theory as I'm sure many of you know is basically the child of one developer named Josh Parnell. It looks beautiful although many chide Josh for having a thing with nebulae.
No Man's Sky - if Hello Games can pull it off - will be truly revolutionary. Not counting Space Engine which technically isn't a game, it's been a LONG time since my jaw has hit the floor when looking at a new game. Ecosystems, weather patterns, planet sized planets, a deep sense of exploration (like Space Engine) - and there is an option in which you don't have to fight, flora, fauna, ships, the galaxy all procedurally created. This game is what I think Will Wright wanted Spore to be until the eater of worlds, a.k.a. EA rushed Wright and his team to get it out into the shops.
Back to Approaching Infinity. This game is about as far aesthetically as one can get from Space Engine. But there is a certain charm that has hooked me. It's a tough but quite fair rogue-like with insane modding possibilities.
As for games I wish I could play, I really miss the Starfleet Command series. Try as I might, I simply cannot get these to run on Win 8.

| Apparently Voyager 1 is an easter egg in Elite
I hope whenever a game is made form SpaceEngine the same kinds of things get added. With SE being realistic maybe the probe could actually be moving

| Has anyone had a go at Elite Dangerous now it's out? I sadly don't have the time for it, but everything in it looks pretty well thought through. The star systems look a bit improbable, but game wise I think it's kept much of the original spirit and made it credible.
