Their videos are made to impress people who don't have a clue on how computers manage data. Their last video was imo composed of only a few 3D models, so the computer would only have to load them once and then display copies according to an algorithm. This video on another hand seemed to be bunch of 2D images with parallax added, so terrain would move behind trees and such to create an illusion of 3D when viewed on a flat screen.

Real-time, realistic, damn beautiful, and hurting moon hoaxers at the same time. Don't think I've seen a video so pleasing from NVIDIA.

Wait.. what? HOW COULD I HAVE MISSED THAT!? cry

To stay on topic: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri; one of the best Turn-based strategy games ever, it is basically an earlier, more retro Civilization: Beyond Earth. Imagine Civ 1 or 2 in space with such a deep and rich... everything. One particular quote:
“No longer mere earthbeings and planetbeings are we, but bright children of the stars! And together we shall dance in and out of ten billion years, celebrating the gift of consciousness until the stars themselves grow cold and weary, and our thoughts turn again to the beginning.”
-“Conversation with Planet”, after you develop the “Ascent to Transcendance” where your faction merges with the planetary sentience

Yeah. That.

What it lacks in graphics it makes up in depth.

I have sunk a ridiculous amount of DAYS into this game, and have probably learnt more from it than most other educational games I was playing at the time. It can be blamed for kicking me off into the wonderful world of astrophysics and astronomy.

And it can be funny when it wants: “What actually transpires beneath the veil of an event horizon… decent people shouldn’t think too much about that!”

Ok, fan-rant over.

I think it's on Good old games, although I'm not sure.

EDIT: yes it is! Alpha Centauri on GOG

BRB, gonna go relive some childhood.

Along with fezes and bowties, brown dwarves are cool.

It's a quite fun game. Reminds me of Trouble In Terrorist Town if you know that.

Basically, it's a multiplayer game where you are a crewmember on a space station. There are lots of different jobs, ranging from janitor to captain and from medical doctor to warden.

Once a round starts, a few people from the crew are randomly selected to be antagonists, such as traitors, double agents, wizards and spies. The twist is that the crew is not informed what kind of antagonists they are, and who they are.

The antagonists get an objective, usually to assassinate or steal something. If they get detected, they usually end up getting prisoned by the security force.

It focuses a lot on role-play, though that changes from server to server. Servers can be very different, with other items, gamemodes, and jobs than other servers.

It's also completely free. It's made on the Build Your Own Net Dream platform (which is buggy and slow as hell), just download that and find the game from the list.
