| I wanted to see if sketchup is really that great (because I don't like it that much) and was surprised to find what you can do given patience. I cheated a little by importing a make human model and doing side by side comparisons.

I have a student license, mainly to do stuff with dynamic components and for exporting models to other formats. It's $50 per year if I remember correctly. Free/cheaper software is a nice perk for college students (when companies offer it).

Not bad; perhaps a ruler would be helpful. Due to the rigidity of what you can make in Minecraft, it seems like it has great potential to help anyone wishing to practice perspective drawings.
I made a new building design in SU and created a test render of the exterior. I'm not sure how stable it would be; I've also tried some alternate configurations with much larger supporting structures.

For what parts? I don't really see anything in my drawing requiring perfectly straight lines. And I don't really like using perfectly straight lines while drawing... or do you mean using the ruler for something else?

After some actual sleep, I realize it was just meant to be subject matter rather than an attempt at an exact copy.
Sometimes when you draw, you approximate the shapes of everything into boxes. Then, you draw your objects inside those boxes. It's a way to help make sure things are positioned properly. I just thought:
minecraft + box technique + x = drawing
so surely x = ruler
