| I think the 24 hour is better, it's more efficient and better than the 12 hour system, First of all its simple, once you get used to it. Just as each moment only happens once, each time only happens once each day. It sounds intuitive, and it is. While using the 24 hour system, when it’s eight o’clock, it’s eight o’clock. No need to ask or specify which eight it is: AM or PM. This eliminates any confusion related to repeating times in the 12 hour system. It Disgusts me to see how illogical time keeping and measurement is. My country (USA) Needs to switch to metric system.
The Gregorian calendar is perhaps the most illogical of all, the months aren't the same length and it leads to inefficiency. Why I propose is 13 months 28 days of each, with an intermission that's not part of the week or anything, it's just intermission and on leap years there is 2.
It's so easy and simple to learn, why would they invent something so illogical? We don't have to do a fast change we could do a change that will gradually update electronics, replace clocks, etc. Do you like this system better?

| I didn't make this, there are several more like the following
What you can do is basically spread the word about how this system is better and if enough people support it, it will have an impact or some sort of petition, and then eventually it could be a reality.

| I like it! There is no Friday 13, and my birthday will always be Sunday :) But humanity will never switch to the stable calendar. There is a conspiracy of a printed calendar manufacturets: stable calendar poster can be used forever, instead of bying the new one each year!

| Quote SpaceEngineer ( ) stable calendar poster can be used forever, instead of bying the new one each year! I never thought about that! Well, actually all the calendar posters I got have been "gifted" for free, so I guess that wouldn't be such a economic damage.

| 13 month calendars have one problem: 13 is a prime and we the months wont fit into seasons.
Improvements to the timekeeping is nothing new and it has changed several times. In antiquity they counted the hours between sunrise and sunset, so the length of the hour varied with season, impractical especially at high latitudes. And of course, the world survived the switch from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. More recently, there were no time zones and every place had its local time. That made train time tables quite confusing.

| We can just adapt the seasons since the 13 month system has each month 28 days each, and thus enough is left over for a new month. We survived the other changes, we will survive the change over to this. Our current system is sloppy and messy, why would someone want to advocate for the illogical? Sure it might be a bit painstaking but over time the people will adapt.

| Quote spacer ( ) in the future as we become interstellar species
Quote steeljaw354 ( ) If we don't destroy ourselves first. We are already interstellar species, since August 25 of four years ago. The Voyager 1 is outside the solar system.
Since time is relative, there is no way to have a "common calendar" or a "universal time" (like on SE), at least with our current methods of calculating time. If we find out a way to know exactly how many times the time is going faster than "normal" (there wouldn't be a normal time anymore) we could have an approximation of universal time.
Also I don't know if it would have sense to have years like today, since 365 days is based on Earth's revolution around the sun, let's imagine the humanity was split at an half in two different planets, which revolution should we use to set a common year? What else could we do? I personally have no idea!
The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

| Well 2 different planets means 2 different systems for the species on each.

| Quote steeljaw354 ( ) Well 2 different planets means 2 different systems for the species on each.
But see, if we use two different calendars then that's no different than having two spacial measurement systems here on Earth-- the Customary system and Metric system. But it's illogical to have two different calendars if time passes the same on both planets, so there should be some form of "universal time" to use...maybe a certain amount of Plank Time's once we are able to specify exactly what value a Plank Time is?

| If time passes the same on both planets that means you should have 1 system.

| I meant that as to say, unless you're orbiting a black hole, which would cause a change in the speed of time itself compared to outside space, then time should pass equally enough to use one system, but what system can be used on both planets, even if the years are different lengths? A perfect measure would be based on the quantized time-- Plank Times. That's only an example though.
