| Quote (Disasterpiece) Thanks for making me feel ridiculously stupid. You're welcome- now stay off my land squatters! I've got a whole ship just made of photon torpedos! Okay, I'm kidding, they are really just gigaton fusion bombs. I've also got a centillion ton fusion bomb in the works. I'm using von-neumann machines to collect all the matter I can in the universe on the assumption that it's infinite and oh crap! I mean I've got a really nice bow and arrow.

| I log stuff. Here's something interesting, though not totally surprising:
This is the relationship between the outdoor temperature and power consumption (W) in our house (30 day moving average). It's a tight correlation. Very tight.
The voltage in the wall should be 230V, but when there's a high demand for electricity, it drops. Here's the correlation between the outdoor temperature and voltage delivered to our house (weekly average). It's not just us:
We use around 25,000 kWh a year. An increase in temperature of 1 °C translates into 130W more power or 1140 kWh saved a year. Likewise, a decrease in temperature of 1 °C costs us 1140 kWh a year.

| Nearly got a heart attack playing minecraft. I have flans mod, so nights are basically just doing whatever you want to do and blowing away the mobs... But endermen dodge bullets and kill pretty fast. I lived though, I found a village and hid in the back of the church.

| (From the comets thread)
Quote (HarbingerDawn) Well in Sept 1993 I was 3 years old, so obviously not old enough to be online (or even know what teh interwebs wur). It must have been cool anyway to grow up with the web. I wish it was around when I grew up, along with powerful computers, GPL software, etc. I did get a computer when I was 7 or so (the Commodore Vic-20, the predecessor of the enormously successful 64). Before that the closest things to computers that I played with were punch cards that my dad brought from work...
My kids wont remember the world without smartphones, tablets, etc. My youngest didn't understand until she was 1½ or so that nothing will happen when you tap pictures in books. It's been interesting to see how a 1 year old has been able to figure out menus, buttons, games and YouTube on phones and tablets. I guess it's the ultimate test for how intuitive the UI is.

| Quote (midtskogen) It must have been cool anyway to grow up with the web. It was pretty cool, though I wish it had been then what it is today. Wikipedia would have been awesome back then. Instead I had to rely on incomplete and outdated astronomy books to learn anything. I love books, but I don't miss those. Having access to the sum total of human knowledge directly from your home is a phenomenal thing, and might qualify as the greatest innovation in the history of our civilization.

| Quote (Disasterpiece) Forum kept saying disk space reached when I tried to post. Yes, we know. Everybody who tried to post on the forum at that time knows. Clearly the problem is fixed now so let's move on.
