| Quote (Crashman1390) I'm telling the definite truth. I find it highly unlikely that your computer cost $18k.

| Quote (Crashman1390) It was custom made. That doesn't mean that it necessarily has to cost anywhere near that amount of money. I built mine myself, and it cost less than $800. What could possibly be in your computer for it to cost as much as a brand new car?

| I don't know. I'm looking up my specs now... I can see I have and AMD FX-8120 Eight core processor. 3.89 GHz and a 64-bit operating system. With water cooling and four hard drives (which you are probably thinking I am lying about).

| Quote (Crashman1390) which you are probably thinking I am lying about Having four hard drives is not unusual. I have 3, and I'd have more if I could afford it. But even with a nice processor and graphics card and lots of hard drives and water cooling and everything, there's no reason that it should cost more than $5000. The $18k figure just really strains credulity. So you're either wrong, got ripped off, or have an extremely overbuilt machine.

| I think I am not used to this new keyboard of mine I might of actually added another zero... Sorry for such a coincidence.

| It's absolutely possible to build a $18k computer (with attached deviced) from mass markets parts. The question is, unless you have very specific needs, what justifies the price? I have used computers for well over 30 years, and I've surely spent more than $18k on computers over all those years (perhaps twice that). If I had spent all those money in the 80's (assunimg that I would have them), my computer specs would be extremely underwhelming today. The best computer investment one can ever make is a couple of years of patience. To lag state of the bleeding edge by a couple of years.
Car enthusiasts could easily spend $18k on stuff that doesn't really serve any practical purpose, so in that perspective why not computers as well. It's not my business, but I don't really understand it unless $18k is pocket chance.

| Quote (midtskogen) It's absolutely possible to build a $18k computer Of course it is, I never disputed that. I did say however that there was no useful reason to spend more than several thousand, and that the idea that the computer cost that much was highly implausible. And it seems that I was right and it was an inaccurate figure.
