| Yes, a fair bit brighter. It is often said that from a truly dark site, the central region is bright enough to cast visible shadows on the ground. (I couldn't tell; I think one must be at lower latitudes, where the center gets higher in the sky).
Even though the center is the brightest, what we see is only a shadow of its true nature, thanks to the large extinction caused by interstellar dust. Without it, the center would shine brilliantly, as this near infrared image shows.

| Last night I tried to shoot the center of the galaxy, but it didn't worked (for now).
However, I took this shot of Omega Centauri at midnight:
Metadata:
-Focal length: 300mm (Canon 75-300mm lens).
-1/f: 5.6.
-Exposition: 400 shots of 1sc.
-ISO: 6400.
Pre-process: DeepSpaceStacker.
Post-process: Photoshop.

| Hello! I need some opinions and I think this is the best place to ask.
I want to buy a telephoto lens, but I can't afford a $7000 Canon lens or anything like that. So I would like to buy one this two products:
Opteka 420-1600mm f/8.3 HD Telephoto Zoom Lens
Opteka 650-2600mm f/8 HD Telephoto Zoom Lens
Will it be good enought to shoot the Moon, Venus, Jupiter...? Or am I being too cheap and I will regret it?

| I don't know about these lenses, but just make sure that your camera has mirror lock before you buy something longer than 500 mm. Otherwise you'll struggle to get sharp images.

That doesn't matter. The vibration from the camera's reflex mirror can blur shots, so you need to enable mirror lockup when shooting so that you can lock the mirror open and let the vibrations dampen before opening the shutter. What kind of camera do you have?
