Y'all might find this interesting, too -- laboratory experiments showing how stable polygonal patterns in rotating fluid systems like that are formed. Pretty neat demonstration.

| I think this should be implemented in SE if it isn't already. Looking at the link Watsisname posted, I'm thinking it would be quite possible to find other weird polygonal formations on other Gas Giants.

I love that clouds, very odd, if i had a personal spacecraft this would be the first place i'd like to visit

| Anyone know if the Cassini imaging team plans to take a more rapid sequence of shots for a better time-lapse of the vortex in action? I just can't get enough of it, plus I'm sure there's some great science to be learned.

| Aurorae on Saturn, October 2009, false color. The true color of Saturn's aurorae are not yet known. The aurorae can reach 1200 kilometers in height, making them the tallest aurorae in the Solar system.

The above images were captured in visible light, and so the aurora definitely has some color in visible light, so the question is valid. Also, I think that Earth's aurorae are brighter in UV than in optical light as well, unless I'm mistaken.
