| Solaris, Those images are just too cool for words! I particularly like the last one, but I'm a sucker for gravitational waves in planetary rings. :3

| Solaris, first image looks like a bug with the atmosphere viewed from afar in SE:)

| I am awestruck. Never before have I seen an image this remarkable of a gas giant planet.
This image is a closeup of Saturn's north pole. The total width of the image is in the area of 3000 kilometers or so. So each of the cloud-like structures visible there is really an entire storm system. This image was taken by the Cassini spacecraft today. Just hours ago, this image was captured, and transmitted halfway across the Solar system to Earth, decoded, and uploaded to the internet for all of humanity to see.
For context, this next image is a wide angle shot of the same location. The location of the previous image is the small circle in the center.
EDIT: Here is an animation showing that central region in different wavelengths

| Marvelous..The gas giant clouds have always fascinated me, these new pictures of Saturn’s north pole are absolutly epics Blury but RGB image : Hopefully the cassini's new orbital trajectory (which is taking it high above the ring plane and poles of Saturn) will give us more great images like those

| Nice image Solaris, even better detail and angle, absolutely stunning! All the people out there who say we should not explore space must have no 'soul'.

| Older stuff (December of 2001) Titan occulting a binary star system (named NV0435215+200905) It's crazy to see the light being refracted by Titan's dense atmosphere.

| Quote (Solaris) Titan occulting a binary star system Wow, what an amazing video. That refraction was crazy! Almost looked like a little neutron star

| How close is that binary system? It must be pretty close and a widely separated binary.

| ^Not that much: their separation is only a bit more than Titan's disc. Since Titan is 0.8 arcseconds at best, let's say they're separated by 1 arcsecond. That would make their separation similar to Neptune's distance to the Sun at about 100 light years. If it's closer than that, it could be at only a billion km between them. So unless they're very far away, I'd guess their distance is pretty medium.

Back to saturn's north pole; After looking at the raw images, I wanted to see what it could look in motion, so, this is my 1rst gif (made of 7 raw images)
other view of the hexagonal cloud structure :
