I "remastered" one of my favorite images from the Apollo program. I particularly like this one because it is one of the rare images that shows what Earth looks like through a medium-wide angle lens, which is what we use most often to photograph things in everyday life. This gives a much more intuitive perspective on just how far away Earth really is.

The original resolution is 2x this (I cropped these for display on the forum) but the detail at full resolution is no higher than it is here, which is why I lowered the resolution. If you want to look them up they are on film roll 151 from Apollo 17.

Wide-field shot of Earth, without the American flag smile

Indeed it does, I think these pictures are so amazing. Apollo was not about exploring the Moon, it was about discovering Earth smile

These are pictures of thunder taken by Satoshi Furukawa from the ISS station :

These ones is very special. It is a different kind of thunder, called "sprite". This happens when a thunder strike is strong enough to send electrons in the upper layers of the athmosphere. The current take the shape of a bubble (huge as 1 kilometer) that get up and down very fast. These shapes can measure 50 kilometers long.

Taken from a plane :

Here is a montage of several shots :

Until recently, these apparitions were mysterious.

"This Earth view featuring the Sinai Peninsula, Red Sea, Egypt, Nile River, and Mediterranean was photographed by an STS-107 crewmember onboard the Space Shuttle Columbia. On February 1, 2003, the seven crewmembers were lost with the Space Shuttle Columbia over North Texas. This picture was on a roll of unprocessed film later recovered by searchers from the debris."
