The catalogsSE.pak is dated 26/12/2014 is that correct? I tried previously to make a star but SE kept CTD and all the stars in the catalog plus planets (couldnt do a search even for earth kept getting the message OBJECT NOT FOUND) so i reinstalled SE. I may have saved MyStar.sc in my documents so that i would have the details ready-however as you stated the file may have an earlier time - which it does even if it is by a few hours. I may also have corrupted it in the process so I will delete it and try from scratch. when i make my new star do i replace one from the binary catalog and use the tag barrycenter star or can i name a new object with a name of my choice and put in the coordinates RA DEC lum etc from scratch or does the stars position have to fit in a specific place in 3d space - in other words i coulldnt create a star in the "sky" that should not be there without effecting nearby stars.Added (11.02.2015, 19:58)

SOLUTION: Deleted old file. Recreated the file and saved as MyStar.sc. Made a link to universe.cfg in the stars section. Started SE again and searched for my new star - alas still nothing appeared despite omitting the NO PLANETS TRUE. I have since found my NEW STAR. In the tutorial at the beginning of this thread it says to config the file in UNIVERSE.CFG as
"catalog/stars/MyStar.sc"
INSTEAD for SE version 0.9.7.2 type
"catalogs/CatalogsSE.pak/stars/MyStar.sc - which works and bingo found my star "ACRAEPHEUS" and 10 planets
