It's time for another one. I promise this one will knock you off your feet! Inspired by Salvo's mass effect flare and this random flare from google images here is another one coming from me, made from scratch.

I present you,
The EVEolution Flare! version 1.1

Screenshots:

Version 1.1 Changelog:

Features:
Double Colors for additional awesomeness!
Next to 0 gradient banding!
Eye-bearable lens flares!
Approval of JJ Abrams!

**
If you want identical results like from the screenshots, you must open SpaceEngine's graphics options, set the 'Diffraction Spikes' to Super, enable Lens Flares, enable Bloom and drag the Bloom slider to Max.

and does the virus alert appear once you extract the rar, or download it?

When i try to extract the rar, it tell me that is a "decompression bomb" D:

Interesting. I'm not getting anything from extracting the downloaded rar. I've read on avast forums that those alerts may appear when the compression rate is high. This flare's rar has compressed 25megabytes to 852kilobytes so that's what would most likely be triggering those alerts.

Right, it's possible biggrin

Nice nice nice biggrin

But could you make the flares look significantly wider when Auto Exposure is turned ON?

Or is that impossible or improbable?

Anyway cool flares, hopefully SpaceEngineer will one day make a real bad ass one :DDD

FLARE.PNG (24mb)

How in the world does a 2048*2048 png filled mostly with black have a size of 24 MB? o.O

Yea, you can find the texture for AutoExposure on at the bottom of the first post.
I'm sure you'll know how to install it. (save it, rename it, replace it).
That's the best you can possibly get for AutoExposure on.

I'm starting to think a certain .png plugin is causing this. It's called ''SuperPNG'' and since my attempt of creating galaxy textures I'm using that plugin to save png's, since it saves Alpha Channel properly. I think I'll have to stop using it. smile

I think so too, that texture should be less than 100 kB. It does compress very well in an archive though, but its packed size is still larger than a normal PNG's size would be anyway.

I assume you're using Photoshop? You should use GIMP to save png files, it always saves the alpha channel properly. You could just do all your work in Photoshop if you wanted, save in a format like TGA, then use GIMP to convert to PNG.

Heh, actually I've figured out the issue with the size. It's the fact that I was converting the flare parts from 16bit then back to 8bit to remove gradient color stripes and at some point forgot to change the final version of the flare to 8bits. I'll fix it and re-uploading everything.

Okay got it ^^

No problem it looks fine by me I'll just mess a lil' with Star mag and voila xD

Anyway it's ''pretty'' realistic because... a whole magnitude is ALOT to our human eyes.

And by the way the Moon is at it's maximum around -12.50 and the Sun at -26.74

And yet the Sun outshines the Moon like 350.000 times xD

I have a feeling I should make my own EVE-like flare, they seem popular.

Do it smile
I think we will need an additional subforum called ''Flares''!

By the way, does anyone have an idea why I cannot save a png texture with the size 2048x2048 that isn't 12 or 24 mb in file size? I tried saving in photoshop, gimp, paint.net. Saving a png with the size of 2048 will *always* give a file size with 12 or 24 megabytes.
