I think he meant word, not work.

Anyways, here's a gas giant with an unusual color pattern as viewed from one of it's moons. I checked and no, it's not a trick of light.

I actually used LOD 2 (asteroids load faster because there isn't as much terrain being generated) for this one, but it didn't help much.

Doesn't seem that impossible if some sort of 3D volumetric clouds are added and there are plenty of OpenGL water shaders that could be implemented or written for SE. Outerra did it after all, so most likely one day SE will look like that cool
