As most of you probably know, SpaceEngineer plans to eventually develop a game based on SE when the engine is completed. Naturally, this game will need a name.

The most commonly mentioned names from the Russian forum are Aurora and Parallax, either standalone or as an extension to the existing name (ex. SpaceEngine: Aurora, SpaceEngine: Parallax). There have been other suggestions as well.

What are your ideas? What do you think the game should be called?

Here is SpaceEngineer's (old) post concerning some aspects of gameplay here: http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/14-67-466-16-1308511139

Another post of gameplay notes here: http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/14-415-1

There are better and more descriptive posts floating around the forum somewhere, you'll have to look for them.

Aurora is excellent, but what do you think about: Armony: Over the edge, or a most shi-fi name like: Sector31: Space explorers?

The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

(still don't know why everyone is doing this...)

The name should reflect the content and goal of the game. Much like Infinity: Quest for Earth. Since the gameplay is very much WIP, the naming process should be had a little later down the line.

Infinity is the main name of the game, ''Quest for Earth'' will change as alpha/beta testing ends since Earth will be found during the testing time. The second part of the title will be based on the current chapter of the game's story.

I wonder if the chapter transitions will be expansions or just big patches.

Regarding the SE game's name:

Personally, I don't like the SpaceEngine prefix, and I don't like Aurora as the name of the game.. I don't feel the name tells me much about the game. At first glance I'd think it is a fantasy-first person game or something.

I feel it's unusual to place the engine's name in the prefix, it sounds weird: ''Cryengine 3: Crysis 3''.

Parallax sounds neat but I feel it is a bit empty, soulless.

My suggestion (for example):

''Ascension: The Beginning''

Ascension = moving upwards
It reminds me of humanity. From the humble beginnings starting from the soil of its home planet, to the leaps into space.

Could work but that is also a very ambiguous name. The title "Space" could mean a great many things, which may not be a good thing

Intel Core i7-5820K 4.2GHz 6-Core Processor
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC 6GB

I remember an old 2000 game called Space, it was horrible, and i hated it xD
But with a nice title's graphics this name could be good smile

Using Cosmos could be good, yes, because of Space Engineer's nationality. But like Doctor said it's very ambiguous, easy to remember but doesn't allude to much gameplay.

I have proposed "Cosmos", but it was rejected by many. Maybe "Kosmos"? smile
And yes, cosmos means space in Russian.

I think it would be easier to change the name a little farther down the line, after the engine itself is out of beta. Names of space games seem to be in a few categories. 1. They are associated with a franchise like star wars or star trek or battlestar galactica. 2. They describe accurately what the game is like Universe Sandbox, Orbiter, Galactic Civilizations and Wing Commander or 3. They have enigmatic space-sounding names like Eve, X, Homeworld, Freespace, Vega Strike, or Darkspace. I think that space engine should be some combination of 2 and 3. The cool thing about space engine is that it is one of a kind with it's procedural universe and its hyper realistic space simulation. That needs to be emphasized because if more people knew there was a game that did that, this forum would be bustling. When I see a game called something like Alpha Objective: Deep Space or Omega Voyagers (something genericly epic) I just pass over it and I wouldn't ever know if it were super cool or just a cookie cutter copy of Freelancer or Freespace. Anyway, I won't suggest anything just yet but I stay true to my point that we should wait till the engine is developed further and that it should stand out by describing the game's uniqueness in a creative way.

PC specs: Windows 7 64 bit. Intel Core i5-2400 quad-core (3.1GHz, 6MB Cache). 6GB DDR3-1333MGz SDRAM[2 DIMMs]. 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive. 3GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 545.

Aurora sound pretty bad IMO, but not as much than Parallax..
I'm rather a partisan of term like Cosmos/Cosmic Ocean, or something who remind and call for the exploration/discovery spirit, Also I totally agree with :
