It's a popular misconception that solar panels need the Sun. In fact, any light source will do, so I'll have lamps shining at the solar panel roads. I did mention I'd use a lamp for anything we'd use the Sun for. And if we find we need more light after all, I'll turn Jupiter into a star.

Why don't you just have jupiter terraformed instead of the sun?

How do you propose to terraform a gas giant? That's a silly idea.

You have a point, but what about all the destruction caused by terraforming the sun? The earth will go cold and if we try to warm it up, we will be out of energy eventually. How will jupiter be turned into a star?

steeljaw354, we gonna terraform the sun and in the same time turn jupiter into a star!

The second law of thermodynamics means any time energy is used (such as all the lamps), heat is produced. That would mitigate the problem of lack of heat. Jupiter would pick up the rest. If we need any more, we just turn on heaters.

What about it? We've got the light, we've got the heat. With the non-polluting solar panels used for energy, life on Earth would be safe with me in charge.

yeah the life gonna be more safe than now. no more pollution and the terraformed sun will be huge and safe for animals to live on

Good point! All the space on the Sun would allow a lot of species that are near extinction to repopulate there.

we can do stellar lifting forcing the sun to throw its mass off into space

Mars is cold, small, solid, has no magnetic field, and its atmosphere is too thin. This makes it the opposite of the Sun, which is hot, large, gaseous, has a very strong magnetic field and too thick an atmosphere. So I'd take the ideas for how to terraform Mars (giant mirrors to warm up the poles and sublimate them, crashing comets into it, taking ammonia, methane, and nitrogen from Titan, reduce its albedo, etc), and then do the the opposite of them to the Sun.

apenpaap, +stellar lifting so we force the sun to throw its mass off into space!

Well if you have the stellar mass thrown off, all the planets, asteroids, comets will just fly out. I think it would be better to terraform Jupiter, all you would have to is basically make a cover over it at about the distance where it has earth like gravity and just add water and greenhouse effect, you have terraformed Jupiter. You could do the same to the other gas giants.

I have a strong feeling that they are joking.

By my part, I guess I'd force a universal language, universal care, universal studies. I'm afraid I like meat too much to force vegetarianism.
fight diseases, achieve some sort of universal philosophy to bypass human need of religions, food for all, then immortality.

steeljaw354, if we turn jupiter into a star before the sun will be gone to a giant terra. jupiter gravity will make the planets orbit him instead of the sun and that wont harm the planets.
