The data have been partially analysed and confirm that the entry and descent stages occurred as expected, with events diverging from what was expected after the ejection of the back heat shield and parachute. This ejection itself appears to have occurred earlier than expected, but analysis is not yet complete.

The thrusters were confirmed to have been briefly activated although it seems likely that they switched off sooner than expected, at an altitude that is still to be determined.

Apparently thrusters were switched off by the computer 3 seconds after ignition, so the lander used the rest of scheduled time in free fall. Ouch!

Oh, well...

Are you asking in terms of journey duration or how many years will pass for the actual development of a Mars Program similar to Apollo?

steeljaw354, with money like apollo program it could take few years.
remember there was lot of money for apollo program because of the space race. the u.s governemt gave lot of money for that program unlike nasa budget now
with the budget now+musk and spacex i guess in 10-20 years we will see lot of mars mission year by year like apollo also because in 10-20 years it gonna be cheaper to do it.

spacer, I wish the budget was at least 1 to 5% of the Gdp.

We need a threat of alien invasion - then all the military budget would change to a space budget smile

Thanks to series like X-Files people thinks aliens are among us, so global mass surveillance is a fact now biggrin

X-files is not to blame. Distrust in government and government secrecy is to blame.
