Hey, SE. I had an idea, and it seems like it wouldn't be too hard to implement. I think a kind of "screensaver mode" (where it randomly picks a body, flies to it (at double-G speed) and rotates around it for a while, then flies to a new one) would be pretty cool, you could leave it running and see what it finds while doing other things at your desk.

I thought about it several years ago, when SE was at version 0.0 smile Maybe in some future version I may implement it, but for now engine has several problems that need fixing, that must first be dealt with.

Howdy! New to this forum but have been playing with the last two releases, as an amatuer astronomer this is simply amazing.

I do however have a suggestion, in space flight mode it would be cool to include high relatavistic speed effects. Stars would blue shift coming towards you, then red shift as they trail your ship and if you are going fast enough they will disappear in a black nothingness directly behind the ship. Then when you hit 1.0c you can do your little hyperspace/warp speed effect.

Add a "skies above me" feature that would show a star map based on location data to show the positions of stellar objects at a given time. This would be nice replacement for Celestia.

Awesome program, keep up the good work...finally people waiting years for Infinity to come out have somewhere to go.

I don't want to make relativistic effects, because in game the spaceships will fly at physical velocities lower than 1000-10,000 km/s and will use hyperdrive for interstellar travels. Also, making such effects are difficult and reduce FPS greatly (like rendering to fish eye projection)

The star map is in my plans for the next release.

"render the galaxy by ray tracing"

Won't that be laggy? Or does the Space Engine use spare voxel octrees or something...?
