Maybe I will try a simpler design next.

...so much for that. (sighs)

Presenting Discover (Wideshield edition):

This is the largest shield you can create in the program.

Here it is in full color. My homage (or attempt at a homage anyway) of the starship from the Outpost game.

Edit: Also, why does the ship keep teleporting to the sun every time I exit and come back?

The deep space exploration ship "Vega" is 1.7 km long. the connecting part is filled with cargo and fuel. Hopefully it won't break, if accelerated. biggrin

How did you manage to get the length of 1km to stick? I tried inputting 1000 (I thought it was in meters) and doubled the weight because I wanted my spacecraft to be huge, but it defaulted back to 500 something meters.

I didn't edit the length in the spacecraft.sc. I built this ship with a length of ca. 2 km (till the end of the main-axis) in the editor and set the unit length in the spacecraft file to 1 (default), so Space Engine calculates the length automatically.
So there shouldn't be any problem with the length, or did I misunderstand you?

But I don't know, why Space Engine calculates the length of my ship to only 1.7 km.

If you want to use a custom length, remove the parameter "Unit"

Spica, your Vega ship looks amazing, I love it smile

@HarbingerDawn:

Thank you! The ship is inspired by the "Discovery" from 2001 and also a bit by the "Event Horizon". I wanted to design a ship with a clear structure.
The only flaw is, that the hyperdrive couldn't spin in this arrangement, because the structure goes straight through it. But at the moment nobody knows, how the hyperdrive is animated in space engine, so it could also be some sort of coils, that don't spin, so this "construction failure" isn't a big problem.
I think a bigger problem is, that the ship would break in reality, if the engines accelerated it, but maybe in the future, there are very strong materials, which would prevent this.

By the way: A seperate "Show your ships-thread" would be good.

Here are my creations.

The USS Cork. It is the capital ship and the main ship in the Ram series. It also does not need to dangerously need to turn around to slow.

The ship near a ringed terra.

View towards the engines.

View of the main shield.

Ramship. The second ship in the series. Also doesn't need to turn around to slow.

Colony ship. The first in the series. Has to dangerously turn around to slow.

All three of the Ram series next to one another.
