| In our Solar System, we have four gas and ice giants (I'll call the ice giants gas giants as well from here on in), which each have a certain look of their own.
Jupiter is amazingly colourful and has brightly alternating bands and zones and fierce red storms, being generally a world of high contrast.
Saturn has bands and zones, like Jupiter, but with way less contrast between them. The entire planet is roughly the same colour of yellow, and can be mistaken for not having any detail on a poor photo.
Uranus has even less contrast than Saturn, being almost the same colour all over, with a good as no visible weather.
Neptune is somewhat between Jupiter and Saturn in terms of contrast. The storms and zones are darker and bluer than the rest of the planet, but the difference isn't as great as on Jupiter. There are large storms and the weather is very active.
Strangely, procedural gas giants in SE seem to draw inspiration from only one of these four worlds: Jupiter.
They are all colourfully banded and have big, clear storms in their atmospheres. You could argue a few of them look quite Neptunian, with less obvious colour differences, but I've never seen a gas giant that looks like Saturn or Uranus in SE. I like Jupiter a lot, but given that only one of our four gas giants displays the highly colourful bands, should every gas giant in SE have them?
I occasionally stream at http://www.twitch.tv/magistermystax. Sometimes SE, sometimes other games.

| Well, Uranus has much more noticeable weather and cloud patterns closer to equinox, but your point still stands. More subtle cloud patterns for some gas giants would be a good addition to SE.

| Use the Solar System's planets as a model for procedural gas giants is not a bad idea. As we see with Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, these planets could be covered by clouds (Jupiter case), cyclons (Jupiter and Neptune), dark fringes (Saturn), or almost monochrome (Uranus), and they are a "base" of that we know about gas planets.
There is theories about how could extrasolar gas giants planets could look like. Based on the melting and boiling points of the most common elements gas giants are made (hydrogen, water, ammonia, methane...), David Sudarsky have made a classification of extrasolar gas giants (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudarsky_extrasolar_planet_classification).
The elements gas giants are made of are important to determine their color, albedo and appearance. Their temperature is also important, it can determine the type of clouds, their size, appearence and colour, the presence of storms, etc.
The well-known 51 Pegasi b planet belong to the class of "Hots Jupiters planets". There can be a giant storm on the hottest face, and streams all around, like in this celestia add-on :
Eccentric gas giants are also known for their hard seasons, and their periodic generalised stream.

| I've seen dual gas giant planet in one sistem. it was more like one was a sattelite of another. unfortunately, game crashed before I could get the coordinats. intentional or a bug?

| The planet rings only seem to ever draw inspiration srom Saturn. I've found no Jupiter-style smoke-thin rings, no Uranus-style violin strings, and no Neptunian ring arcs. There should be more diversity in our ring systems, as well. Diversity is what makes everything interesting

| Alas, Space Engineer is but one man and he's already tackling a thousand-and-one features/issues/improvements.. I would agree, though, but he may already have this on his to-do list

| Speaking of rings, are you guys going to create a procedurally generated debris field like they are trying to do with Infinity?

| Hey! Don't you be talkin' mean 'bout the chocolate fudge moon!
(But no, I agree, it would be nice to see more variety in the rocky worlds, too.)

I remember SpaceEngineer saying that rings will be improved a lot in 9.70 (the next version). I think there were some pics, too.

Oh yeah, the rings are all sorts of colors. A bit too colorful, imo.
