| I often want to be able to navigate quickly and easily toward the poles, equator or along equator or parallell to it. I can look at the lat/lon nubers of course, but this isn't very easy to follow intutively and quickly as you travel.
It would be great to have the option of a lat/lon overlay grid along the surface of the planet as also suggested by Brett001. I realise, this might not be dead simple because of the irregular nature of the surface but I'm wondering if the grid could in fact be a set of planes ('stacked' disc for latitudinal grades and vertically intersecting discs for longitudinal grades), which only display where they intersect the surface - this way the lines would appear to draw across mountains in the correct lines. Perhaps that wouldn't be a good way but Anyhow, if this were possible, I'd also request an option to have co-ordinate numbering on/off so each intersection of the grid is numbered. I think this system would be a feasible display, say computed by a ship AI from sci-fi perspective for in game use as well.
In a similar vein, it would be hugely useful to have an optional compass display either (or both) immediately ahead of you, pointing to the 'north' pole with it's dial (with degress or just the other three cardinal directions) always rotating accordingly and on the horizon with degree marks. I imagine the compass would be easier to implement, it would be great to have one of these functionailities soon to explore planets in a more visually informed way.
You are now breathing manually..
