So that the catalogue of real stars and other objects can be as comprehensive as possible, could a simple platform be developed, to be used either within or outside of the game (outside makes most sense to me I think) where the objects details may be entered along with declination and distance (although distance is open to interpretation) and the engine will feed off of this 'cloud' of data and be able to insert these objects into the Universe in the right place. Would this be possible?

It could be that it does not appear or overwrite another entry unless it is approved by others, who could also add a better image or whatever to it so as well as an amazing procedural universe, one could also turn all procedural off and travel in a realistic as possible known universe, literally visiting other stars and learning about them (from the info data which numerous users could contribute to, again requiring approval on amendments / new entries from at least however many people.

I think to not have a comprehensive 'real' space encyclopaedia to explore in Space Engine would really be bypassing a fantastic opportunity given that this platform will exist.

You are now breathing manually..
