Alright, with a game that features procedural generation you have the potential for unlimited replay value, as long as every thing you find is new and refreshing, obviously that's not completely possible because there are a limited number of things you can find in space, but I really think the replay value is already high and as long as more variables are added the more replay value there will be, I've played this game A lot, but it's still very awesome to find a Terra that looks very unique or one that I've never seen before.

SpaceEngineer, you plan on adding way more unique features for terra's and such right, I've seen posts about you planning on adding canyons and tidal locking and volcanic features and such which is great, as long as no Terra or planet for that matter looks the same this game will have amazing replay value, also perhaps you could have a very minor chance of finding a planet that's just been hit by a asteroid or something having a chunk missing or something and ejected rocks orbiting it.

Easter Eggs could also add replay-ability, for example maybe you could have it where there is at least one planetary system per galaxy that has developed the technology to create a Dyson swarm around their star, finding it would be akin to winning the lottery and it would create some sort of goal for the players.

I'm kind of just rambling here but I just want to say I have a feeling this game is going to be amazing, and could you give some hints on what you plan on adding for replay value and such?

Yes, I plan to add more surface features and landscape forms to planets, but won't make every planet have all of them. One planet will have canyons and no ice caps, another will have sand dunes and no volcanoes. I also plan to add surface color and material texture variety.

Another thing shall be modelling of planetary system formation, I talk about this code like in famous StarGen application, but taking into account modern knowledge about extrasolar planetary systems. I hope such modelling will give interesting and unique systems, like planets with hi-eccentric orbits, binary gas giants, trojan planets etc.

Next thing to do is black holes and neutron stars, compact binary stars with gas accretion, pulsars, quasars, supernova explosions, comets with animated tiles, asteroid impacts, volcano eruptions, aurora and meteorite rains. There are many space objects and events, that are not implemented in SpaceEngine yet.

For the planets I plan to add detailed surface conditions and biosphere classification. Like this:

  • Paradise 0 = Earth like planet with extreme climate changes, huge tectonic activity, very agressive and dangerous lifeforms: defensive suit reqired
    ...
  • Paradise 5 = Earth, biological defense reqired in some places
  • Paradise 6 = Earth like planet with more soft climate and less agressive lifeforms
    ...
  • Paradise 9 = Constant temperate climete with no season changes, no predatory and parasitic lifeforms, no viruses and bacteria

  • Hell 0 = Terra without life: non-breathable, but non-toxic atmosphere with comfort temperature and pressure: only breath mask reqired
    ...
  • Hell 3 = Mars: non-breathable thin atmosphere, cold, low gravity: light space suit reqired
    ...
  • Hell 5 = Moon: no atmosphere, temperate temperatures, low gravity: space suit reqired
    ...
  • Hell 7 = Venus: extreme hot toxic atmosphere, huge pressure, high gravity: heavy suit with thermal control reqired
    ...
  • Hell 9 = Jupiter: destructive atmospheric pressure, no rigid surface, extreme gravity: impossble for landing

    That sounds amazing.

Also, there should be a way for us users or "alpha/beta testers" to claim planets and star systems and give them names that would be featured in the game, I'm not sure if it's possible for that to be incorporated into the procedural engine but it would be neat to be able to be randomly looking around and find a claimed system.

And I've read somewhere that you've added Easter eggs and such, I think you should add a ton of different hidden things to find, in the procedural generation so that people can't just read the source code to find them, it would be pretty neat to have thousands of easter eggs scattered around the trillions of star systems, like copies of Earth,Dyson Swarms, sextuple star systems and other weird things I can't think of.

Currently SE supports up to 8x multiple systems, but probability of them being found is quite small.
I'll prepare a big easter egg, something that could likely be for "Battlestar Galactica" fans smile
