this might not be the right place for this post, but it's the best i found...!
Do you know about PROLAND?
It is an OpenGL research prototype made by a dev team from a french public institution for numeric science (INRIA).
It does not seem very active since mid-2012, but the result of their work is IMHO very advanced (some features are of course already there in SpaceEngine but not all of them): procedural terrain, terrain editing, great visual aspect from sea level to orbit, real-time ocean rendering, trees with shadows, dynamic cloud shadows, ...
If you don't know about it yet, you should really have a look!
The best thing about their code: it is open source.
By the way, are you planning to open the source of your graphics engine?
